Reading and Writing
Remind your child to return sheets for February Book It. March will the last month of Book-It but having routine time set for reading is always important. Reading is essential in daily life so extra practice provides great benefits.
During writing, students have been learning how sentence fluency changes their compositions. Starting each sentence in a different way is much more appealing to the reader than having each sentence begin the same (I... I like...etc.). Another aspect of sentence fluency is composing sentences of different lengths makes the piece have more impact. An occasional short sentence actually makes a big statement in a story or report.
Math
Students learned about estimating large collections in math. Because of this, when a child is the math meeting he/she will be bringing home a container to fill with items for classmates to estimate. Please help your child remember to fill the container and return it to school when it is his/her week. Also this week, students discussed dividing a set of even objects or a set of odd objects in half. Measuring with feet and inches was practiced this week, too.
Science and Social Studies
Students completed Chapter 7, Observing Weather. Wind, precipitation, changes in weather and the water cycle were important topics in this section. Earth and Space is the next chapter's topic. Students will learn what causes day and night. Studying on Zondle could benefit your child with new vocabulary words and concepts.
National landmarks were emphasized during Social Studies. Zondle practice for Social Studies is People and Places in History, Chapter 6.
