National Inclusive Schools Week
December 5-9
This year, the Inclusive Schools Week’s theme focuses on the concept of being a hero. This is particularly fitting because the definition of a hero, a person noted for courageous acts of nobility of character, resonates with all of the students, parents, teachers, principals and community leaders who take courageous steps forward each day to promote acceptance for all.
The path toward more inclusive educational services has been challenging, yet rewarding. This year, we focus on the steps along this journey and consider the courage it requires to:
- · Participate in the general curriculum beside your peers with and without disabilities
- · Speak in favor of inclusive practices
- · Model a sense of shared responsibility for ALL students,
- · Extend the conversation to the community to make certain that the inclusive opportunities that are provided in the schools are available throughout adulthood.
Today’s media heroes, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Supergirl and all of the other caped crusaders are fun to watch on the big screen, but it is the authentic, everyday heroes who demonstrate the courage and sense of honor that we recognize through the Inclusive Schools Network.
Please meet one of our many Super Heroes here in OCONOMOWOC!
Throughout the week, we will be asking students to reflect on the power of inclusion and believe that we all have a special place at our school. Students are invited to draw, write, or make a video about why they feel that all students are included at Ixonia School.
Gingerbread Shop
The Gingerbread Shop will be open to students next week, December 6, 7 and 8. If you're new to Ixonia, this is a wonderful opportunity for your child to be able to purchase a little gift for others in their lives for the holidays - brothers, sisters, parents, friends!
Each student who brings in money, will have the chance to purchase items for $2 each - they come wrapped and ready to go.
Your child has come home with a shopping list. Extras are available here, in the office - or you'll find a link on the PTO page of the Ixonia website.
The Gingerbread Shop is run by PTO volunteers. who could use your help this year. If you are available to fill a time slot we'd really appreciate it! Click the link to see which slots we need the most help with.
Don't forget to dress for the weather!
5K and 1st Grade Holiday Concert
A Note From Music Teacher - Mrs. Jenkel -
Preparations for the Holiday concert have already begun, as the students and I are working together on learning the songs and instrument parts for the concert! The Holiday concert is on Tuesday, December 13th at 6:00 p.m. Students should arrive at 5:45 p.m.
IMPORTANT: Students should remain with their parents in the gym until 5:45. Students should keep their coats with their parents as they will not be returning to their classrooms after the concert. Mrs. Yearling will make an announcement at 5:45 when students are to head to their rooms. This will allow some time to take attendance and warm-up our singing voices. Please remind students to wear something nice for the concert. I look forward to seeing everyone there!
