Mt Hobson Middle School
Pathway to Opportunity
The 2016 academic year is well underway - come and join us!!!
Mt Hobson Middle School (MHMS) and Villa NCEA Academy (VNA) has welcomed two new International students this term - one from Beijing and one from Shenzhen.
Having just celebrated Chinese New Year in the vibrant 'City of Sails' the students seem to have settled well into 'Kiwi life', working hard throughout the school day and enjoying afternoon sessions full of varied enrichments activities.
Thanks to the fantastic Auckland weather, the students have had ample opportunity to enjoy the sun, sea and sand in our beautiful city with both their class mates and homestay families.
Limited places remain available to International students for this year, with just the following spaces remaining:
* 3 in Year 11 (NCEA Academy)
* 3 in Year 10
* 2 in Year 9
* 3 in Year 8
* 2 in Year 7
International Manager Bruce Knox is available via phone, Skype or e-mail to assist and advise agents on the best opportunities for students wishing to study in Auckland, on a short or long term basis.
In addition, school holiday programmes can be written and facilitated for groups of students and families wishing to visit New Zealand to experience the education system and lifestyle or to develop English Language skills.
MHMS & VNA
Our beautiful restored 1900's villa is located in the city centre suburb of Newmarket. The villa has excellent learning spaces, including a purpose built science room, art room, kitchen and areas for individual and group learning. There is ample access to desktop computer suites and laptops with a wireless network providing connectivity across the facility.
Mt Hobson Middle School and Villa NCEA Academy operates classes of no more than 12 students - allowing us to truly personalize and tailor learning to support students in achieving their personal and academic roles.
Auckland
The beautiful city of Auckland, at the top of New Zealand's North Island, is the countries most cosmopolitan city. Home to 1.3 million people - over 32% of the entire population of the country, this vibrant city offers world class shopping, dining and entertainment and boasts a pleasant sub tropical climate.
For the fifth year running, Auckland has made it into the top 10 of 'The Economists' - Most Liveable Cities in the World' list - coming in at number 9. Auckland provides an ideal base to explore the country and surrounding South Pacific Islands.
The Hauraki Gulf
The sparkling, clean waters of the Hauraki Gulf and Waitamata Harbour are home to some of the most beautiful marine life on the planet - dolphins and whales can often be seen playing in the turquoise waters. Rangitoto volcano provides a dramatic back drop to the city, also known as 'The City of Sails' due to the 135,000 yachts and launches that are registered here. Aucklanders love to be on or in the water and many 'water based' events are hosted throughout the year. Auckland is currently experiencing a stunning hot and dry summer.
What can we offer to International students
Mt Hobson Middle School and Villa NCEA Academy can offer 'tailor made' opportunities to International students. Three examples include:
Long Term places - students attend the school for a minimum of one academic year, living with a 'homestay family' and studying as part of a maximum class size of 12. Students will have full access to our academic programmes and examination options.
Short term study - students attend for a period of time chosen by their parent/agent. Students will be provided with uniform, stationery and a 'homestay family' (if required) and will join an existing class. This is a good 'taster' option to allow children to familiarize themselves with the school, its curriculum and Auckland, or as an option to 'boost' English language skills.
Holiday courses - we offer 'tailor made' packages to groups of International students wishing to study in Auckland short term. These packages can include English lessons, academic programmes, visits to local attractions and entertainment facilities and visits to surrounding areas. Hotels or 'homestay' arrangements can be made for children and their families.
