What to do when your child is absent
Regular, on-time attendance contributes to the academic success of our students. In the
event of an absence, parents should take responsibility for following this procedure:
- The parent should call the School’s Office at 707-890-3935 the same day the student is absent. If you call before or after school hours, please make sure to leave a detail message with the student’s full name, teacher’s name and the reason for the absence.
- Unless the parent/guardian knows ahead of time exactly how many days the student is going to be absent, the parent should call in each day of absence.
- If it is impossible for the parent to call the school, the student must bring in a signed note from the parent the first day he/she returns to school.
- An automated caller will inform parents of absences marked that day and not cleared by note or phone call. This communication is to keep parents apprised and to correct any possible classroom or clerical errors.
- Absences, which are not cleared or excused through the Office within 10 school days, are considered cuts. After a student attains fourteen (14) days of medical absences, medical verification will be required.
- Students are considered tardy if the student arrives to school after 8:10 a.m. Late students are required to check in to the office to receive a late pass. No notes/phone calls will be accepted for a tardy. The only excused tarries are those verified with a doctor’s note.
- Independent Study- If a parent knows that their student is going to be absent from school for more than 5 days due to vacation, family going out of the country, etc. Parents will need to come into the office as soon as they know the dates the student will be absent and request for Independent Study. Independent Study is for student who will be out of school for a minimum of 5 school days and a maximum of 18. A form will need to be summited by the parent and approved by the school. Homework for the days the student will be out will need to be completed and returned to school the first day the student is back for the student to get full credit for Independent Study.

Important updates from Santa Rosa City Schools regarding the Coronavirus / Información actualizada importante de Santa Rosa City Schools sobre el Coronavirus

February 28, 2020
Dear Santa Rosa City Schools Community,
Like most school districts, we are continuing to closely monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. As you may know, the information on this is rapidly changing. We want to let our community know how SRCS is coordinating information and responding.
We are working with county school and health officials to establish protocols for schools in the event that coronavirus does spread in Sonoma County. The County Office of Education and County Public Health are NOT asking schools to make any plans regarding limiting school attendance at this time.
Our County-Wide Emergency Operational Center (EOC) has been activated for communication and information. SRCS will be meeting multiple times each week to receive and coordinate the best information with the necessary steps to keep our students and staff safe.
Santa Rosa City Schools is monitoring our students and staff daily for any illnesses. We are implementing increased sanitation for offices and classrooms. Based on this we are asking SRCS staff and students to stay home if they have a fever of 100°F.
These good practices should also be followed:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick. Do not return until 24 hours after a fever ends without fever-reducing medication.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash; or cough or sneeze into your elbow.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Get a flu vaccine (there is currently no vaccine for COVID-19).
Regarding face masks, the California Department of Public Health does not recommend the use of face masks for general prevention and says that handwashing provides better protection from infectious diseases. Face masks, however, can be an important tool to stop the spread of germs if you are showing symptoms.
Santa Rosa City Schools will continue to work with our education and health partners and will provide updates as necessary on our website srcschools.org, and on Facebook and Twitter @SRCSchools. You can find current information about the coronavirus on Sonoma County Department of Health Services website.
If you have questions please contact your school principal.
Sincerely,
Dr. Diann Kitamura
Superintendent, Santa Rosa City Schools

Atentamente,
Dra. Diann Kitamura
Superintendente del distrito escolar Santa Rosa City Schools
