Peace, Passion, Purpose
“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality…. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.”
—Martin Luther King, Jr.
Notes from Michelle
We hope that all of you are having a nice February so far. While we are only 4 days in, February does feel different from January already.
As we have discussed in previous Friday Folders, while there are some changes to masking and various other covid protocols in some places, Eagle Peak will be continuing with the protocols we have in place. The only change is for students as they get vaccinated there are different restrictions and protocols for vaccinated individuals. The board has discussed the potential changes and determined that in order for us to protect our community, we will continue with our processes in place.
INDEPENDENT STUDIES FOR ABSENCES: Independent Studies are a tool for allowing students to miss a portion of school days and still be considered present for those days. Too often this year we have students, for whom a request has been submitted to receive an Independent Study from their teachers, yet when they return the work is not completed. Independent Study documents are required to reflect the amount of work a student would have if they were at school. This is quite a bit. However, we can only accept packets that are completed within 5 days of returning to campus. It can often take multiple hours for a teacher to put the packet together and if the packet is not completed it simply does not count. If you do not anticipate your child having the time to complete the packet, please do not request one.
February, as you know, is Black History Month. It seems impossible that an entire culture and history is promoted for only one month, and the shortest month at that. The core history which is taught throughout an academic program should be inclusive of all cultures and subjects. Imagine if we were taught history timelines of all peoples to see how language, math, science, medicine, community, governance, all developed across time. What would we see? Would we see a world not centered on European achievements alone? For example, how many of us are taught that the first written language can be traced to Mesopotamia, the area that includes Syria, Turkey, and Iraq today? That the numerals we still use today were created in Ancient India? However, that is not how most books and state standards present history. More often than not, significant individuals and events from marginalized cultures are not presented in mainstream courses and that is specifically why it continues to be essential that we ensure that time is reserved to teach Black history, Latinx history, Asian history, LGBTQA+ history, and Indigenous histories. At Eagle Peak our goal is to be inclusive and to also honor the designated monthly celebrations as well.
I know that San Francisco is through a tunnel and across a bridge, but the San Francisco public library is having events all month. https://sfpl.org/events/special-programs/more-month-2022

News from the Office
So many Reminders:
Friendly reminder - The only animals allowed on the EPMS campus are actual Service Animals.
Please see the article from the EPMS Board of Directors from September 2019 - The Eagle Peak Montessori Board of Directors voted on a board policy that impacts ability of families to bring pets of any kind, with them on campus. Unless the animal is a designated service animal, we can no longer allow the animal on campus. The “campus” includes the sidewalk between the fence and the office, the front sidewalk extending from the garbage dumpster all the way the entrance of the Castle Rock Fields. We do ask that if you have your pet with you, that you use the drop off/pick up drive through line for your children.
If your child has been fully vaccinated, please provide a copy of the completed vaccination card to the office. The information will kept confidential.
When your child is SICK or TARDY, please remember to call (925-946-0994) or email (Admin@eaglepeakmontessori.org) the office. Thank you.
Covid Testing- Please note that we must receive the results of a Covid- 19 PCR test. We cannot accept the results of a rapid test. Thank you for your help with this.
Please check the LOST and FOUND. We already have quite the collection of coats and sweatshirts. Please stop by and take a look.

Don't forget about Box Top$ for Education!
Remember to gather your Box Tops for Education.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Buy participating products and use the Box Tops mobile app to scan your store receipt within 14 days of purchase. The app identifies eligible products and automatically adds Box Tops to Eagle Peak's earnings online. Even if you’re shopping online or doing grocery pickup, you can still submit your e-receipts and earn Box Tops. Your earnings may seem small, but they really do add up. The more people that participate, the bigger the impact we can make. Learn more about how Box Tops works at BTFE.com.
