News and Information
Family Turkeys are due: Nov. 4! Can't wait to see our prize poultry!
Grandparent's Day for MY CLASS will be Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 8:30-9:30. The students can invite as many grandparents as they would like. We cannot accommodate grandparents for lunch on that day- our cafeteria is bursting at the seams with just our students. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.
Book It Program: October Calendars are due on Tuesday. Keep reading for 20 min. each night!
Jackets Needed!
Please send a sweatshirt or jacket with your child to wear during morning recess. It is still very chilly at 10:30 when we go outside. Thank you!
Book Fair is coming!
Mrs. Frank will be holding our annual Scholastic Book Fair November 7-11
Reading
This week we are working on identifying story elements (characters, setting, problem, solution) in Fairy Tales. We read many different fairy tales and talked about the elements that make it a fairy tale. We continue to review skills from the past units (main idea/ details, characterization, multiple meaning words, synonyms, etc.)
Reading Homework: Back to normal- practice the sight words and read the fluency passage each night. Return the fluency passage on Friday for it to count toward your child's reading grade.
Math
- reading and recognizing numbers from 1-1,000
- 1 more, 1 less, 10 more and 10 less than a 3 digit number between 101 and 1,000
- counting by 5s
- counting by 10s
English and Writing
In English we were introduced to adverbs and preposistions and how to identify them in a sentence. We learned that adverbs answer the questions how, when, and where, many times they end in -ly and they tell more about the verb in the sentence. We also reviewed adjectives.

Homework Help and Hints!
Math fact practice- Why?? Second graders need to KNOW their addition (and eventually subtraction) facts by memory. As we move into more complex math skills (i.e. addition and subtraction w/ regrouping, multiplication, etc. ) the student will need to worry about the steps to solve the problem, not trying to count on fingers to find 4+9. We have set the goal of 95 problems correct in 5 minutes on both addition and subtraction facts. We have already begun working on that goal for addition here at school. In the coming math lessons, the 100 facts in 5 minutes will be a test grade. Please keep practicing at home- memory is the goal!
Data Binders- Look for them Monday
