What's Happening in the Library
Fall 2014
5th Grade
These questions will be considered as we begin our survey of Native American culture, both past and present.
Students have begun to study Native American art through the use of pre-selected online resources, images, and videos. (Find these sources under the Digital Sources-5th grade page on this website.) Students will choose an art form (storytelling, music, dance or visual arts) to research, and will design a plan for recreating this art.
Students will then consider what their own "native art" might look like.
4th Grade
After learning about the fascinating tree-sitter Julia "Butterfly" Hill, students have begun to research the current and urgent topic of Global Climate Change. Students will find that "Saving the Trees" is just one part of the solution, and that there is much more to understand and take action towards in order to help combat this global crisis.
After gaining background knowledge of climate change, students will design a school-friendly plan for earth-awareness activism, inspired by the work of Julia "Butterfly" Hill.
