Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a wonderfully busy week in school again this week!
First though, you will have noticed that the windows have been smashed again. The police have kept us informed throughout and the perpetrator has been arrested. We are fully aware of the up to date situation and have risk assessed both the year 5 sleepover and the Year 4 camp next week, both of which the police are happy for us to go ahead with. The windows will be replaced during the holidays in order to avoid disruption during the school day.
Now onto the things we can celebrate this week!
Y6 had a great time on their transition visits to the high schools and whilst they were away we had two very positive moving up days in school. The children enjoyed seeing their new classrooms and meeting their new teachers. They are all very excited and looking forward to September as are we. Our new Reception intake were in school over the two days and settled very quickly into their new classes too which all bodes well.
Y5 thoroughly enjoyed their sleepover last night and seemed to get a reasonable amount of sleep! Their new teacher, Mr Priory joined them alongside Mr Symes, Mrs Harrison, and Mrs Mawson and everyone commented on what a good experience it had been. Well done Year 5 - I am sure you will sleep well tonight!
Finally, a note on attendance. You may be aware that the government is progressing plans to make attendance much tighter with proposals that any unauthorised attendance will be fined (even just half a day) and two fines in any 6 month period will go to a magistrate's court for prosecution. This will be done directly at NYCC level and is not an individual school process. It is currently just a proposal but you may wish to be aware of it for when you are booking holidays.
On this note, it is the Yorkshire Show next week and both NYCC and the STAR MAT policy is that requests for absence will not be authorised.
Please ensure that your child has sunscreen applied before coming to school and a water bottle as the weather is set to be warm for the next week
Have a lovely weekend,
Karen Williams
