Happy Thanksgiving!
11/22/22
As we head into the long weekend, I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope everyone is able to enjoy this time with family and friends and appreciate all that you are grateful for.
I am truly grateful for my family and happy that my own children are home for Thanksgiving and that we are all able to see our extended family over the next few days.
I am also very grateful for the amazing staff at Milton High School. Each and every one of them is working extremely hard to provide the best education for all of our students at MHS while making sure students are engaged and connected with the MHS community.
I am also very proud of our student body! What an amazing start to the year we have had! In our classrooms, on the fields, and on stage, our students REPRESENT!
In Case You Missed It....
MHS Cross Country
......the girls Cross Country finished 18th overall at the D1 State Championship! Mia Jilani tied for 20th place with a time of 19:14! The girls also met their goal of beating Shepherd Hill Regional who we lost to last weekend.
We would also like to congratulate Katie O'Toole, Mia Jilani, and Alec Carew for being named 2022 Bay State Conference All Stars! Sarah Grace Chave and Malcolm Frank-McKnight received Honorable Mentions. The Bay State Conference is a very tough league for cross country, so being an All-Star in this conference is a huge accomplishment- congratulations!
MHS Theater
......we have new directors for our after school theater program. Welcome Stephen and Laura Markarian! They come to us with a vast amount of experience..just take a look!
Laura Markarian (she/her) hails from Stoneham, MA and began her early dance training at 4 years old at Northeast School of Ballet under the direction of Denise Cecere. In her time there, Laura rose up through their trainee program studying ballet, tap, modern and jazz. She also spent several summers partaking in summer intensive programs at Joffrey School of Ballet and North Carolina Dance Theater. She became involved with musical theater in high school and went on to study musical theater in college at the Boston Conservatory where she graduated with a BFA in Musical Theater with an emphasis in dance, acting and repertoire. Since then, she has joined the professional actors’ union and performed in professional regional productions across the northeast. Laura also had the honor of performing as a soloist with the Boston Pops in their Gershwin Spectacular at Symphony Hall. Additionally, Laura has been a dance and theater educator for the past decade. Alongside her husband Stephen, she has directed and choreographed many children and teen productions around the Boston area, as well as held master classes, private dance coaching and audition prep courses. Laura is a true believer that good theater makes good people, and encourages students to explore all aspects of theater and their creativity in a safe, supportive and fun environment.
Stephen Markarian (he/him) has directed and music directed numerous children and teen shows over the last decade, alongside his wife Laura. He has also taught a variety of masterclasses ranging from song performance to audition prep. Stephen attended the Boston Conservatory and graduated with a BFA in Musical Theatre, with an emphasis in Acting & Repertoire. Stephen has also starred on television as a recurring role in Nickelodeon’s Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. He also guest starred on an episode of Nickelodeon’s Drake & Josh and on CBS’s Listen Up! starring Jason Alexander. Stephen has performed in numerous productions regionally at Speakeasy Stage Company, The Greater Boston Stage Company, Wheelock Family Theatre, Celebration Theatre and Sierra Repertory Theatre. He starred in the national tour of Theatreworks USA’s Bunnicula: The Musical and toured over 30 cities in Japan as a principal vocalist with The Orchestra Japan’s Disney On Classic symphonic concert.
Coming in the spring of 2023, Stephen & Laura are launching their own private performing arts coaching business in Quincy, “Markarian Coaching”.
