Weekly Update for 11-17-19
Joan MacQueen Middle School
Principal Message
Good Afternoon Alpine!
This is Joan MacQueen’s proud principal, Casey Currigan. It was a great week to be a Dust Devil. Kudos to Mrs. Bromma who was awarded a grant from North Island Credit Union to expand her classroom library. She and Mrs. Rutledge are currently participating in the Global Read-Aloud of "The Bridge Home". This book tells the story of four Indian children living on the streets of Chennai, on the Bay of Bengal. As an extension of their classroom activities, students have trick-or-treated for UNICEF and learned about classical Bharatanatyam dancing. As the classes explore aspects of the culture, the class is communicating with Mrs. Rutledge’s brother-in-law who is currently working in India. This book has been a fantastic tool for diving deeper into the literature while using Notice & Note Signposts as a close reading strategy.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Bromma and Mrs. Skovmand for setting up the gym for next week’s parent teacher conferences. More thanks go out to Mrs. Shannon Thornton and all of the JMMS staff that set up the Scholastic Book Fair. We hope you will be able to join us for conferences which will take place Monday through Friday from 12:15 pm until 3:00 pm. To accommodate families whose schedules preclude them from attending during those times, please join us Wednesday evening from 4:00 pm to 6:15 pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
Please enjoy what remains of the weekend and I look forward to a productive week ahead.
