Cougar Chronicles
Kent Center School's Monthly Principal Newsletter
September
It has been a wonderful start to our school year. I want to thank all members of the KCS community including students, staff, and families for their assistance in helping make the start of our year a great one.
Students spend the first few weeks of school learning the routines of their different learning spaces. This year, we are happy to be returning to our Unified Arts classes around the building such as the library, art room, and music room! Students in middle school are rotating classrooms, and enjoying a new sense of independence! We continue to keep our mitigation strategies in place in all areas of the school. Classes also take multiple mask breaks throughout the day.
All of our students have been reviewing the Habits of Mind in their classes. A habit of mind is a disposition toward behaving and responding intelligently when we are confronted with various challenges and problems in the classroom and in everyday life. Teachers are working towards embedding these habits into their academic curriculum, but also implement habit-specific lessons.
Thank you for reading the information contained in this newsletter carefully. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best,
Michelle Mott
Drop off/Pick up Reminders
- Students should not arrive or wait outside the doors earlier than 8:15.
- Students should exit from at least the first four cars in the drop-off line or as soon as the car reaches the sidewalk area. This helps the line move quickly.
Pick up
- Please park IN a parking spot. There should be no parking in the grass as you enter the lot (this is house property) and no parking along the fence. It is very difficult for cars to back out of the parking spaces when cars are parked along the fence.
From the Office
All notes from home should be communicated via email. Please email any notes pertaining to the school day by 10:00 am to Meghan Robb (robbm@kentcenter.com) or Mary Cox (coxm@kentcenter.com). A change in dismissal plans will not be accommodated after 10:00 am. Please note that students should not have alternate bus plans unless permanent for childcare purposes.
Important/Revised Sections to note in the Student Handbook:
- Attendance Policy - p. 7 & 8
- Snacks - p. 11
- Cell Phones - p. 11
- Dress Code - p. 14 & 15
The grading practices handbook for grades 3-8 is linked below. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher.
