The mission of John Adams Elementary School is to:
Provide a safe place for learning to occur.
Support social-emotional development.
Nurture creative and innovative leaders.
- Build unity through relationships with students, families, and the community.
Principal Post
- Please remember to review and expect your students to consistently follow the AdamsPRIDE expectations. One area to specifically focus on is hallway expectations. As a reminder, students should walk quietly, in a straight line, and controlling their hands and feet in the hallways. If you would like for Brett or me to come to a morning meeting to review these expectations with your students and make sure they understand why they are important, we would be happy to help!
- Today I met with Dr. Moorhouse to review my goals for our school this year as it relates to my evaluation. I shared these with leadership on Tuesday to make sure they felt like the goals were aligned to our work. I wanted to make sure to share them with you all as well. The document with the goals and action steps can be accessed below. We will visit these regularly throughout the year and my expectation is that you could speak to these three goals, as they pertain to you and your grade level/department, if you were ever asked by a visitor.
- K-2 teachers involved in Read to Be Ready - please schedule the coaching visits with Ashley, if you have not done so already.

Important information and reminders
ELL/WIDA Requirement - From Sarah Good
We still have several teachers who have not completed the ELL/WIDA Standards Training survey--this is the record of their attendance for the ELL presentation I did during the inservice week before school started. We need ALL teachers to complete this survey by October 5 to comply with state monitoring. Below is the link to access the survey:

Thank you for your help!
Evaluation Information
As a reminder, the format of the Lesson Planning section of the evaluation process has changed slightly. All teachers need to be able to talk about their lesson as it fits within a unit of study. Teachers can use the weekly lesson planning tool that has been used in working with ELA / Math planning. For other departments, you are welcome to use the old template or another document you already use when planning units. In addition, feedback was used from the TEAM evaluation faculty meetings to develop guiding questions. These questions will be used to guide conversation during pre/post conferences around how the lesson taught in the observation fits into the unit. As a reminder, teachers do not have to write out answers to these questions, unless that is helpful to them, but all teachers need to be ready to discuss these questions during the observation cycle.
You should have received an email today about who will be observing you and how many observations you should expect to have. The data hasn't been released and calculated in TNCompass but we are pretty confident in the scores we have calculated for you! :) We will let you know if anything needs to be adjusted after the data is released.

Assessment Blueprints for 2018-19
Audience: Directors of Schools, Principals, EducatorsContact: TNED.Assessment@tn.gov
The 2018-19 assessment blueprints for social studies, ELA, and math are now available. The blueprints can be found on the department website (here). As a reminder, science will not be operational in 2018-19 due to the transition to new science standards. More information about the design of the science field test will be communicated later this fall.
Additionally, as a reminder, grades 3-5 social studies will take a pause for the 2018-19 school year, so there are no blueprints for grades 3-5 social studies.
