2022-2023 Marking Quarter 1

This flyer highlights events, programs, and services provided by the Bellport Senior High School Counselors for high school students and families during the first marking quarter, which ends on 11/4/2022. This quarterly flyer will be updated as events are added during the school year.

School Counseling Programs & Events

Free PSAT and SAT Test Preparation Online

Grades 9-12


All Bellport High School students will be taking CollegeBoard exams on October 12th:

Grade 9 - PSAT

Grade 10 - PSAT

Grade 11 - PSAT/NMSQT

Grade 12 - SAT


In preparation for these exams, we recommend that students use CollegeBoard's free online tools to prepare for these exams. Taking the PSAT in 11th grade can connect students with various scholarship opportunities. Seniors who choose to option 1 below may enroll in BigFuture Scholarships to be considered for scholarships just for preparing to take the SAT using CollegeBoard/Khan Academy free online tools.

PSAT Student Guide

Here are 2 free, online test prep options:

Option 1 - CollegeBoard & Khan Academy

This online SAT test prep is offered by the CollegeBoard in conjunction with Khan Academy. When prompted, agree to link your CollegeBoard and Khan Academy accounts to get personalized recommendations to prepare for the SAT.


Option 2 - Method Learning

Method Learning is a subscription-based online SAT and ACT test prep program. Students may access their accounts, which are paid for by the South Country Central School District, through their Clever account.

College Application Assistance

College application assistance is available for seniors after school in the BHS library from 2:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. on various dates. Students do not need to pre-register, but are asked to bring their Chromebooks to participate.

Credit Recovery Program Enrollment

September

Grades 11 and 12


The Credit Recovery Program is an afterschool program designed to give upperclassmen the opportunity to make up missed credits. This is for students who have previously completed a course but were not successful. The School Counselors will identify students in grades 11 and 12 who need to make up course credits in order to meet New York State graduation criteria. Students must meet attendance criteria to be considered for the Credit Recovery Program.


Students must meet minimum attendance criteria in the course they did not pass in order to enroll in Credit Recovery. Therefore, not all students who request Credit Recovery will be approved to enroll in the program.

Career Exploration for Freshmen

9/19 - 9/21/2022

Grade 9


High school counselors will be visiting each freshmen class to facilitate a Career Exploration activity. Students will be completing the career exploration activity using their Naviance accounts. Students may access their Naviance account through the Clever portal.

Senior College Planning Classroom Presentations

9/29/2022

Grade 12


Seniors will have a Senior College Planning presentation in their classes to review the college application process and timelines.

Senior College Planning Night Presentation

Seniors and their parents/guardians are invited to attend the Senior College Night presentation in the BHS auditorium. It is college application season so bring your questions!

Senior Planning Conferences (SPC)

10/11 - 11/23/2021

Grade 12


Each senior will receive an appointment in their South Country Google Calendar to meet with their School Counselor. The purpose of the meeting is for students to continue to develop their individualized post-graduation plans including college, career, employment, or military paths with assistance from their counselor.

Financial Aid & Scholarship Information

FAFSA Opens October 1st - Support available to assist with completing the FAFSA

2023-24 FAFSA and NYS Application for TAP Opens October 1

  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) found at fafsa.gov, opens October 1 for high school seniors who are college-bound.
  • HESC helps students complete the FAFSA and Application for TAP. Students who need assistance can sign up and view the schedule here: https://startheregetthere.ny.gov/events


NYS DREAM Act Application Enables Undocumented Students Access to NYS Grants and Scholarships

  • Undocumented and other eligible students can visit hesc.ny.gov/dream to determine if they are eligible to apply for NYS grant and scholarship programs, including the Tuition Assistance Program, Excelsior Scholarship, and Enhanced Tuition Awards.

Virtual College Visits

Admissions representatives from various colleges will be visiting with Bellport High School students. Students will need to pre-register to attend. All meetings will be held in-person in the Guidance Office, and the students will then meet with Admissions Representative in a live video meeting.

Bellport High School Fall College Fair

SUNY Virtual Information Sessions

Grades 9-12



The State University of New York (SUNY) is the public college system in New York State. SUNY offers 64 institutions, including research universities, academic medical centers, liberal arts colleges, community colleges, colleges of technology, and an online learning network.


Students can learn more about SUNY by registering online to attend a virtual Information Session, by exploring the tools on Which SUNY, and by requesting a SUNY Viewbook.

The City University of New York (CUNY) is the nation’s largest urban public university and is located in New York City. CUNY has 25 colleges spread across New York City’s five boroughs.


Students can learn more about CUNY by registering online to attend a virtual information session or by exploring which CUNY.

Transcript and Records Requests

Parents/guardians may access their child's academic records on the ParentPortal. The ParentPortal is not managed by the Guidance Office. For assistance with the ParentPortal, please contact parentportal@southcountry.org or call 631-730-1511.


Bellport High School current students may access their academic records on the StudentPortal or by contacting the Guidance Office.


Bellport High School graduates and alumni will need to complete this online form to request a copy of their transcript and records. Please allow at least 10 business days for this request to be completed.


If you have any questions about your transcript and records request, please call the Guidance Office at 631-730-1575 and press 3 for the Guidance Office.

Working Papers

Ages 14 - 17


For students ages 14 to 17 who need New York State Working Papers, please call or stop by the Guidance Office. If you would prefer to access the form online:


  1. Please follow these instructions
  2. Complete Part 1 only at the top of this form and have your parent/guardian sign it
  3. Bring this form to the School Nurse or your Physician to be completed, signed, and stamped
  4. Return completed forms to the Guidance Office. Your working card will be issued within 3 business days. You will need to sign for and pick up your working card in person in the Guidance Office.
