Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
St. Clare School Family News | 22 November 2020
'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me.’
He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
Then the king will say to those on his right,
'Come, you who are blessed by my Father.
Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
a stranger and you welcomed me,
naked and you clothed me,
ill and you cared for me,
in prison and you visited me.’
~Matthew 26
Dear St. Clare School Families,
In anticipation for the season of gratitude, there are so many things for which to be thankful...
OUR PARENT LEADERSHIP AND THOUGH PARTNERS
Today, twenty school leaders gathered together for the Second Annual School Advisory Council Leadership Symposium. Last year, we surfaced St. Clare School’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. We used the information we gathered to help improve programs and inform our priorities.
This year, our leaders gathered with the express task to dialog about enrollment marketing and development: ways to tell the St. Clare story to prospective families and to develop relationships and partnerships with alumni, the private sector and community organizations. Many creative ideas and action items emerged from the conversations.
Stay tuned for an invitation to be storytellers of our good news: the ability to offer concurrent in-person and at-home learning with compassion and grace; the willingness to work hard and persevere to build community; and the continuous effort by all to be patient and flexible in order that we may maintain a safe learning environment amidst the pandemic and in order to respond to the needs of our students and families. We thank you in advance for working in solidarity to fulfill the vision we have for our beloved St. Clare School.
Enormous gratitude to Cathay Avila-Linn and Shirley Mata, parents of St. Clare School graduates for facilitating our symposium for the second year in a row. Thank you to Tola Dalton and to the School Advisory Council, the Finance Committee and the PTG for their leadership. To those who accepted our invitation, we are so grateful for sharing your Saturday with us and for giving us the gift of your presence and your care. Today was a testament to St. Clare School’s “special sauce”: sharing in communion as one family.
OUR YOUNG CHRISTIANS & OUR WORK TO REPORT STUDENT PROGRESS
This week, our First Trimester Young Christians were honored by their teachers at our Wellness Wednesday Assembly. These students live out our Catholic school philosophy and Schoolwide Learning Expectations (SLEs). They model for others what it means to be a “Silver Box”: one who practices gospel values in his or her daily interactions with others.
Emmie H (TK) | Isabella B (K) | Mimi T (Gr. 1) | Logan L. (Gr. 2) | Meley B. (Gr. 3) | Olivia T. (Gr. 4) | Ian G. (Gr. 5) | Alexa A. (Gr. 6) | Aubrey A. (Gr. 7) | Beyonce O. (Gr. 8). Congratulations!
Teachers prepared reports that were sent out, or will be sent out soon, to show progress towards the achievement of academic and behavior standards. We congratulate all for their effort and thank the teachers for the care they took to provide a jumping off point for student success in the trimesters to come.
OUR T2 RETURN: A SUCCESS!
We are grateful to teachers and families for their cooperation and support to bring in 52 more students on campus. We are happy to have them back!
OUR PARTNERSHIPS: SCCPHD, SCCOE and the DSJ Dept. of Catholic Schools
We are grateful for the education and partnership provided by the County of Santa Clara and the DCS to help us navigate our world during COVID. The training, resources and guidance have helped keep our community safe.
Please pay close attention to the following travel advisories and guidelines, especially during the holidays:
On Nov 9, eleven (11) Bay area counties released guidelines for staying safe over the holidays.
Additionally, Santa Clara County made the following statement. In the statement, the County links the mandatory directive for gatherings.
On Nov 13, the State issued a travel advisory encouraging people to avoid all non-essential travel.
On Nov 16, the State issued an announcement moving multiple counties, including Santa Clara, directly to the purple tier.
At this time (11/16), schools who are already open for in-person instruction may remain open. The County is allowing schools to continue their phased reopening as long as they have already begun in-person instruction for one or more cohorts.
SOME IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
CATHOLIC TUITION RATE: For those who actively participate in the life of the school and parish
Opportunities to show your active participation in the life of the school and parish abound: contribute to the Diocesan Layette effort, the Warm Love campaign, donate goods and services to St. Vincent de Paul, attend virtual events and respond to surveys.
If you are handy and enjoy working on projects around school, our team of parish volunteers (Matt, Larry and Manuel) could use your help. They will train you as apprentices to help with the upkeep of our beautiful facilities.
WAYS TO REMAIN INVOLVED:
There is still time to contribute to the Diocesan Layette Program and Warm Love Drive (crew socks)!
Entries to the St. Clare School Christmas Card Contest may be submitted by Tuesday, Nov. 24
Please make sure students sign their work.

Voluntary COVID Testing for Children; Flu Shots
Thank you to all the families that attended the Return to School orientation last night. Be on the lookout for more information in the coming days about logistics and more.
Thank you to Jane Wulf (8th grade parent) for sharing the information below. St. Clare is not requiring a negative COVID test to return to in-person learning, but families may want to have their children tested before returning.
Families with children of any age are welcome to schedule a free COVID nasal swab test. Results are sent by text/email within 2-3 days (in the past I have received mine within 24 hrs). I recommend scheduling a test for the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds site:

Fulgent Booking System 1.0 - Appointment
This testing is for people who live, work, attend school, or assist with care for a resident of Santa Clara County.

You will be asked to provide optional insurance information to help offset the costs related to providing the test. The insured(s) is NOT billed. Insurance is NOT required to be tested. The fairgrounds location is a drive-thru site open Tuesdays-Fridays (12p-6:45p) and Saturdays (9a-3p).
In addition, flu shots are offered free of charge across the street (Fairground expo building) on Saturdays.
