Breaking News from PED
Below is important information from the Governor's Press Conference on 3/13/20
Repeat: NO Make-ups for these days.
In a press conference this morning, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and Secretary Ryan Stewart announced that the NM Public Education Department (PED) has answers to the many questions we have been asked frequently.
Here's what the Governor said:
· The NM PED will waive the instructional hours requirement, so that school days will not need to be made up.
· All schools and districts should continue to pay workers as if school is still in session. No employee will experience a wage gap.
· Schools that have online or distance learning programs are encouraged to offer those on a voluntary basis during the closure.
LAFSE commends our governor for this bold and supportive decision. It is clear to us that Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's first priority is the health of New Mexico citizens, and her second, the financial stability of public school employees.
We will continue to email important information about how our state, city and school district will work to address the community's needs.
