Week 3: Meeting our Mission by Understanding our Unique Students
Part of our school's mission revolves around meeting the needs of our unique students. A great article was shared with us from Soaring Wings. I encourage you to read the entire article. I am including an excerpt from the article below.

Details for the Week
- PROWL (Phase 1) kicks off Monday. We will be providing interventions to 128 kids! This is over a fourth of the school. I appreciate everyone's diligence in digging into the data this past week to identify our struggling learners. Support staff will be supporting the cafeteria and the PE building this week in PROWL as we work on finalizing PROWL Phase 2!!!!! Assignments are as follows: PE Building: Winn, Gordon, Turner, Newkirk Cafeteria: Havens, Satterwhite, Cardin, Hogg
- MAP Testing for grades 3-5 starts Monday. K-2 will start next week.
- K-2 MAP training will be after school Monday in the team meeting room with Ms. Hogg. All k-2 teachers will need to attend.
- Since MAP testing is happening for 3-5, we will start Dibeling K-2 Monday through Wednesday of this week. Support staff that usually work with 3-5 will go down to help with K-2. Dibeling 3-5 can start on Thursday. Make sure to tell kids what the goal is they are trying to reach on each Dibels assessment before starting.
- We will begin using our Car rider Google spreadsheet this week. Ms. Newkirk will be putting names on the spreadsheet each afternoon. I will give more details over the intercom Monday afternoon.
- I have sent out emails about your PGP goals In Edreflect this past week. Make sure you have answered your TESS questions at length. This will be the work that guides you to collect evidence and chart data throughout the year. It needs to be an in-depth plan. Have these completed by Friday, August 31st bythe end of the school day. If you have questions about your PGP, email me.
- Agendas for team meetings can be found in your Google team drive. Grades 3-5 will meet as a content team. This means we will run the alternate schedule. Be patient as this is the first time we have tried this schedule this year. Ask me questions if you are unsure about the schedule before Wednesday.
- Make sure you have printed, signed and turned in your ESCworks PD hours transcript to Mrs. Manning by the end of the school day on TODAY (Monday).
- Reminder to DRA any new students before August 31st and enter them on the Literacy assessment spreadsheet.
- Positive Parent Contacts need to be made by September 4th. Mrs. Manning will be sending out a document for you to fill out as you make them. This can be a face to face conversation or a phone conversation. 3rd - 5th grade will contact their homeroom. This is a great step with parents by making a positive contact early in the year.
- Commemorating the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787. Please have this noted in lesson plans for Monday, Sept. 17th.
- Celebrate Freedom Week during the last full week of classes in September (September 24– September 28), pursuant to Act 682 of 2003, Please make appropriate lessons for this week. The link will provide resources and ideas for you. http://adecm.arkansas.gov/Attachments/Constitution_Day_and_Celebrate_Freedom_Week_Resources_2018.pdf

Reminders
- Have your lesson plan out on your desk (reading lesson plans on your reading table) for us to look at when we come in your classroom. This will allow us to not interrupt the instruction taking place. Make sure your objectives are posted on your marker board. (See faculty handbook if you have questions about this.)
- Lunch counts and attendance will need to be entered by 9:00 am. Be sure when marking students absent in Eschool that you mark full day.
- If you need to use a phone to call parents, please use the lounge phone or go across the hallway to the conference room. The office phone is not a place where these conversations need to take place.
- Make sure to have students mark their attendance sheets while you are entering attendance in eSchool. Students and staff will color in green for being present. (Make sure to hang your attendance sheet on the board.) Color red in on the day the student and staff return from an absence. Mrs. Manning and I will have a reward for students and staff that have the entire calendar green for August.
- Remember to use a tumbler type cup with a lid for your beverage including coffee.
- Turn in your orientation sign in sheet to Mrs. Manning.
- All classroom doors must be locked at all times. Only open your classroom door for students or other staff members. You will be notified by Ms. Patty of any visitors coming to your classroom.
