We Are The Champions!
One word can be very powerful because of its meaning, like the word champion. Each week a new message is shared with Wilkshire staff on a dry-erase board in our workroom. The message is always inspirational, and written by one of our paraprofessionals, Jackie Clay. We are sharing this week's message with our Wilkshire families to remind you that you too are champions! Thank you Jackie Clay for reminding all of us!
Wilkshire Balloon Parade
Before Thanksgiving, Wilkshire's first graders read Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy's Parade. They learned all about how the parade began and has grown over the years. Next, students studied floats and balloons from recent Macy's Thanksgiving day parades. When they had several ideas, the first graders created designs for their own balloons. Children chose to make animals, unicorns, Pokemon, and other well-known characters. Using balloons, markers, tape, and construction paper, the students constructed balloons for their very own parade. Finally, they proudly paraded around Wilkshire showing off their amazing balloon creations!

Buddy's Pals
Buddy's Pals is a dog therapy program at Wilkshire. Two dogs, Dixie and Eddie visit student classrooms each week to enhance student learning. Teachers can sign up to have either Dixie or Eddie visit their classroom for 30 minutes each week.
In case you didn't know, "There is a distinct difference between service dogs and therapy dogs. Service dogs help individuals with specific disabilities, such as visual impairment or seizure disorders. Therapy dogs provide comfort and support. They are trained to use their social instincts and learned social skills to provide health, social-emotional, and cognitive benefits." (https://www.weareteachers.com/dogs-in-the-classroom/) Wilkshire students love the comfort and support they receive from Dixie and Eddie!
Dixie Promotes Calmness

Dixie Provides Comfort For Students

Eddie Helps Students

Winter 5 Essentials
Now that winter is approaching, we are reminding our Wilkshire families about the Winter 5 essentials, which are snow pants, boots, a warm coat, hat and mittens! Wilkshire students love to go outside for recess which occurs a few times daily, so the Winter 5 essentials are just that - essential! We also recommend that you label your child's outdoor clothing so if they misplace anything we know who it belongs to!
