ORCHESTRA
LEADERSHIP CLASS
8TH GRADE MATH
Hi Math Lobo’s and Families,
Spanish Fork Junior High can bring 10 8th graders to compete at an official MATHCOUNTS competition at BYU on Feb. 5th. Here is a tentative breakdown of the schedule.
· 8:00 - 8:30 Registration – in the Wilkinson Student Center
· 8:30 – 9:30 Sprint Round
· 9:40 – 10:20 Target Round
· 10:30 – 11:00 Team Round
· 11:00 – 12:00 Lunch / Finish Grading
· 12:00 – 1:00 Countdown and Awards – Families welcome
We need to send in our names by Thursday January 26th. Please reach out to Ms. Whiteside
(charlotte.whiteside@nebo.edu) or attend math club in room 8 on Thursday right after school to let us know if you would like to compete. This is a great opportunity for students to engage in mathematics and get some competition experience. In previous years, students were given swag bags, including a BYU t-shirt, and light refreshments at the beginning and then a bag lunch. It was a lot of fun. I highly recommend joining us.
Students will need to provide their own ride to the event. However, Ms. Whiteside will be at the competition to coach, supervise, and cheer on the teams. She will wait with each student until their ride arrives.
We are super excited to be able to provide this opportunity for our students. Let us know if you would like to attend!
SHETECH
Each year the women tech council sponsor’s a big event up at the Sandy Expo Center, called SHETECH. This event is specifically for 9th -12th grade girls. Spanish Fork Junior High has reserved a bus and can bring about 50 girls to the event. If you would like more information, check out the website at shetechexplorer.com.
If you would like to spend the day, Feb. 28th , on a STEM fieldtrip, ask your math teacher for a fieldtrip permission slip. We will leave around 9 am and stay for most of the day. Lunch will be provided, let us know if you have specific dietary requests. Then we will ride the bus back and be back in time for the end of the school day.
