BFH Falcons View

November 21 to 25, 2022

Principal's Message

Dear Falcon students and families,

I hope you all had an excellent weekend! We are coming off another great week at Facey that was full of events highlighted by our activities around the "Bullying Awareness initiative" and our celebration of "Metis Week".

The focus of our upcoming week will feature a number of important events. Beginning with our completion of our Basketball team tryouts this week, then moving into our important hosting of the University of Alberta's Faculty of Engineering visiting us with a special presentation on this "Opportunity Wednesday", November 23, 2022 @ 2:17 pm in our library, and finishing off with our swim team competing in the Metro championship series of swim meets. I also want to point out that theatre season at Bev Facey starts next week with "Holder Posey" and then during the second week in December, "Clue on Stage". Tickets are on sale now, please purchase them now before they are sold out!

As I did last week, I want to point out that our amazing School Council has set up an online staff recognition form once again this year. It will be featured on our newsletter and website moving forward. This recognition form allows students and parents the opportunity to communicate their appreciation for staff at Bev Facey. There are lots of great things going on at Bev Facey, and our staff love to hear when we are making a positive difference in your child's lives. If you are interested in filling out the form for a staff member or members, please click on the button below my message.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Bev Facey FOD Squad Movember Initiative

It's Movember, and that means it's time for the annual Facey fundraiser! Staff are growing ‘staches this year! Students are also welcome to join! Donations can be made to Movember Canada with all proceeds going to our fundraising goal of $3500!

The focus of our fundraising efforts will again be to support both the fight against Cancer and supporting Mental Health initiatives nationwide.

Kicking off the fundraising event will begin at lunch on Tuesday, Movember 1st in the cafeteria. We are going to do a “Shave Off” to generate some attention to the efforts for the month. Teachers who are participating will be featured in a clean shave off to begin the month! The Facey Photo Booth backdrop will also be out with some wearable moustaches for students to enjoy taking some fun photos!

There are many ways for our BFH community to show support:

  • "Grow Hair" If you are fundraising, (join our team by clicking on the link button below) you are encouraged to grow a moustache (starting clean-shaven on Movember 1st) or other hair (ex. some people will grow their leg hair out for the month).
  • “Move for Movember” challenge. We are going to cross Australia! Just set a kilometre goal to achieve and participate in the Move for Movember challenge. A large map will be on display in the fitness center. We are going to start in Perth and aim for Brisbane (~4300km) but can detour to other places like Sydney (~3900) depending on how many kms are being piled on.
  • You also do not need to fundraise to participate in the Move for Movember challenge. Just a set a goal for the month (or just see how many you can do), track your kms, and report your kms to Mr. Taylor in the fitness centre. He will be tracking the totals for the month.

EIPS School Fees Now Enabled on PowerSchool

Fees for the 2022-23 school year have been added and updated to your child’s account. You can view and pay school fees by coming into the school directly or conveniently by logging in to your PowerSchool Parent Portal account. Fee payments can be made online via the PowerSchool Parent Portal using Visa, MasterCard or Debit. If you require assistance accessing your Parent Portal account, contact our office at 780-467-0044. We recommend logging into your account regularly as changes may occur throughout the year.

If you would like to set up a payment plan for the 2022-23 school year please contact our financial secretary, Renae Cameron. Having a successful payment plan allows your account to remain in ‘good standing’ allowing students to remain eligible to participate on athletic teams, non-curricular field trips, graduation activities and other school related events.

Elk Island Public Schools understands that families may face financial challenges that impact the ability to pay fees. Parents who find themselves in this situation can apply for certain fees to be waived using the Application for Waiver of Fees (505-2). A completed Application for Waiver of Fees form can be e-mailed to fees@eips.ca.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our financial secretary Renae Cameron by email at renae.cameron@eips.ca or by phoning the office at 780-467-0044.

U of A Engineering Special Presentation on November 23rd - Library (2:17 pm)!

Post Secondary Planning

As we navigate the start of a new school year, we are still making an intensified effort to touch base with each of our students around their plans for their future after high school. It is our pleasure to work along side you and your student this coming year.

Nobody knows your child better than you do. As a parent your insight into your child is a valuable resource. The more we understand about your child’s path forward, the more effectively we can support their needs.

We appreciated your participation in our short survey, these past few weeks. This survey helps us to develop a support plan for our students moving forward as we meet with them throughout this year.

If you missed submitting your responses in the survey, please don't hesitate to contact the counselling team.

Kindly,

Admin and Counselling
