Lesson 3 Respect other students' comments, opinions, and ideas.
Lesson 4 If you are asked a question in conversation, ask a question in return.
Lesson 5 Do not show disrespect with gestures.
Lesson 6 Always say "Thank you" when given something.
Lesson 7 Surprise others by performing random acts of kindness.
Lesson 8 When someone bumps into you say “Excuse me” even if it is not your fault
Lesson 9 Learn from your mistakes and move on.

ONLINE REGISTRATION APRIL 16 for 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR
Henderson County Schools will begin student online registration for the 2018-19 school year on APRIL 16, 2018.
All students planning to attend any Henderson County school from Thelma B Johnson Preschool to High School must have an online registration completed by the primary parent/guardian. We encourage all primary parents/guardians to complete registration before MAY 17, 2018 to assist with classroom and class assignments
The primary parent/guardian of CURRENTLY enrolled students must log into their Infinite Campus Parent Portal account to complete online registration for all the students in the household, including a Thelma B Johnson preschooler, kindergartner or new to the household student.
Middle School families with school provided Chromebooks can use that device for online registration with the student’s log on information.
Any primary parent/guardian of a student NEW to Henderson County schools, meaning the primary parent/guardian does not have an Infinite Campus Parent Portal account set up, must go to the local school to
complete registration and provide required new student forms.
There is more information available in the STUDENT REGISTRATION link found in the Quick Links box on any school’s web page.
For assistance with Infinite Campus Parent Portal log in, call 270-831-8759 or email OLR@HENDERSON.KYSCHOOLS.US.
SMS Dance Team is State Champs
What was it like to win state?
Eighth grader, Emma Alves, says, "This year's state championship was exciting, nerve-racking, and emotional. It was especially scary because we did not want to lose our State Championship title as an 8th grader. The thought of having back-to-back winning state titles was a goal that I knew would be hard to achieve as a dance team."
Sylena Smith recalls that "when they called our name, I was so happy I cried so much. It felt so good to know that we won after all of that hard work. We got our goal and it just made my heart stop! It's the best feeling ever!"
What all went into achieving being back-to-back state champs?
Kennedy Phillips, another 8th grade SMS Dancer, answered that it took "long practices, both at home and in the gym, working on choreography changes and hitting our motions on the right count. Some of us took additional technique classes to further improve our skill."
Malyn Turner, 8th grader, agrees with Kennedy in regards to the amount of work. She says every year there is a different team "and that means figuring each other out to fully become a united team. Being on a dance team takes a lot of time (more time than most would've thought), but I guess that's what it takes to be State Champs, hard work and dedication. Achieving State Champs back to back is an amazing accomplishemnt that any team can do as long as they really want it as we did"
What exactly does it mean to be the "Best of the Best"?
Not only did the SMS Dance Team become State Champs, but they were also awarded "Best of the Best." Coach Carrie Bolin let us know that this "is the award that recognizes the overall winner of the competition in the middle school division--this can be won by ANY MIDDLE SCHOOL team participating in the competition. To be eligible for "Best of the Best", a team must participate in at least TWO categories regardless of division, category, and region. "Best of the Best" is award to the team who received the highest average of scores of all performances."
What can you take away from your experience as back-to-back State Champs?
Sydney Wawrin says her big take away from being State Champs is "that no matter what team you have, you can become State Champs." We love this take take away! Sydney reminds us that it's not about the team you're placed with, but the work the team is willing to put into accomplishing the goal!
Way to go girls! We are so proud of you! As Mr. Reusch said in the assembly, you banner has been hung and you will forever be apart of South Middle School!
