Giving Thanks at JBD
Thanksgiving is a time to remember your blessings. We all know that and for teachers, it means a nice 4 days to relax and reconnect with our families. I hope you get a chance to recharge!
Usually we trek to NJ. But this year is different. This year, we are staying home because my daughter, Claire, 22, will be returning home from CA for Thanksgiving. No homemade ravioli, no loud bustle when 'New York" arrives, no 12 hour food fest coma. None of that. This year, we are staying here and doing our own thing with another family; a much quieter family!
As thankful as I am for this small family Thanksgiving this year, I would also like to take a moment to thank you all the special things you do to ensure, every child, every day, has a great day at Dey; not just at Thanksgiving, but all of the time.
Things like:
- Greeting each other and students with smiles everyday
- Sharing resources to help make the educational experience here awesome.
- Taking care of each other in times of need, sadness, and sorrow
- Celebrating in times of great joy on a daily basis
- Keeping a sense of humor
- Being dedicated to the mission of providing a quality education
- Loving ALL of our children
- Embracing differences and new cultures, whenever they register!
- Giving hugs
- Drying tears
- Tying shoes
- Listening
- Holding little hands (even when they are sticky and dirty...)
- Providing hope on a daily basis
- Keeping high standards and expectations
- Caring
- Asking questions
- Accepting suggestions
- Growing as professionals
- Taking risks
- Being innovative
- Never giving up. on a single child. Ever.
- Giving so much of you, to so many of 'them'.
JBD staff is the absolute best. Thank you on behalf of the 835 students and families you touch every day. Please enjoy your OWN families for Thanksgiving as you have given so much to others. This is just one Big Fat Thanksgiving KUDO for everyone!

I MAKE A DIFFERENCE AWARD
Karen can give everyone a good laugh,
But her teaching is certainly her better half.
All of her students think she is the best.
Definitely better than all of the rest.
Her generosity was easy to see,
She took the time to reach out to me.
She always has ideas to share.
A teacher as skilled as her is truly rare.
No one deserves this more than her,
Karen Callis makes a difference, that’s for sure!
