Talley Street Update
October 14, 2021
Dear Talley Street Community,
I hope everyone is having a great week! It has been an eventful week at Talley Street. On Tuesday, we began our weekly surveillance testing. Two hundred and seventy four students were given a COVID-19 rapid test. Of the 274, one student tested positive. Though one case is too many, I do believe the results show that our mitigation measures are working. If a student tests positive, he or she is given a PCR test. PCR tests are more accurate but take more time for the results to come back. If the PCR test comes back negative and the student does not have any symptoms, the student and any close contacts would be able to return before the 10 day quarantine period is over. If your child tests positive or is a close contact and has to quarantine, concurrent teaching will be provided. The classroom teacher has 24 hours to get ready to begin the concurrent teaching.
A few parents have reached out to the school to revoke their consent for testing. If you have sent Ms. Parks or me an email requesting that your child be removed from the list or you are wanting your child removed from the list, please email Cynthia Brown and copy Dr. Huddleston. Their email addresses are cbrown@csdecatur.net and lhuddleston@csdecatur.net. If you would like for your child to be tested and added to the list, please use this link to complete the form.
The lost and found is beginning to overflow again. Please have your child check for any items by tomorrow afternoon. After Friday, all remaining items will be donated.
Have a great Friday and weekend!
Billy

Reading Rally
Ready, set, GO!
Our 2nd annual Reading Rally Fundraiser starts TOMORROW Friday, October 15 and runs through Friday October 22! Our theme this year is Reading Around the World--A Celebration of Global Poetry.
Our goal is for students to read 75,000 minutes in 7 days!
They will set goals, find sponsors, log minutes, and collect donations on the PTO website. Due to the pandemic, we will continue to run the Reading Rally virtually. For directions on how to set up a Reading Rally campaign, click here.
PLEASE BE SURE TO EDIT YOUR EXISTING ACCOUNT and complete the TEACHER NAME field in your child’s Reading Rally campaign. You must hit the Update button at the bottom of the page to save changes.
We are experiencing technical difficulties with some of the pre-populated accounts on the PTO website. If you find that you CANNOT EDIT the existing Reading Rally campaign, please create a NEW CAMPAIGN and complete all required fields. Old campaigns need to be deleted by administrators so new campaigns can be approved, so please allow time for processing. New campaigns will not be immediately visible.
Beginning Monday, 10/18 each day of the Reading Rally will feature a poem written by a different poet from around the world. Special thanks to Mijha and Runako Godfrey, founders of Books, for their work in finding diverse poems to spotlight and for donating Jambo Book Boxes to student and class winners at each grade level. On 10/18-10/22, We will have a special activity for students to complete each day in a Padlet located in their google classroom Media Center Folder. We would love all students to participate in these Padlet activities, so they are eligible for a chance to win special prizes thanks to generous donations from New Talley Station, Butter & Cream, Kavarna, and Oakhurst Market!
