DESCRIPTION
Run for orang-utans is a campaign created to raise money and awareness for orang-utans in a safe environment that benefits everyone. It's intended to keep the public healthy by gaining exercise and helping the orang-utans at the same time. The orang-utan species are becoming progressively endangered everyday. This is being caused by deforestation of their natural habitat. The rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra are home to palm trees that grow a certain type of fruit, oil palms. An edible vegetable oil is derived from this fruit and we call it palm oil. The issue is the demand for palm oil is way too high, causing too much to be used and it's destroying the orang-utan habitat at a fast rate. In return, this run will hopefully raise the goal amount of $5000 and this will go towards a rescue appeal that supports the work of an orang-utan rescue unit who are saving critically endangered orang-utans in West Kalimantan, Borneo.
WHY DID I CREATE IT?
I chose to create this fundraising campaign out of passion for the issue and the orang-utans. Our world is developing everyday and nothing is gonna stop that but we can stop the extinction of the animals surrounding our land. They do a lot for us, an example; animals are are part of the food chain and keep ecosystems in balance. Some animals work as service animals like seeing eye dogs and some fertilise plants. That's only a couple of the wide range of things animals do for us. We need animals and they need us, I feel they deserve to be protected and cherished as living creatures on our planet.
