Sunday News from the Preschool
Thought for the day...
Message from Mrs. Kilday
Thank you for all of the wonderful pictures you are sharing with us. We love these and are so appreciative. They truly make our day!
We are working on plans for the next school year. If you are returning to the preschool next year and your plans have changed, please let us know. We understand that during these challenging times you may not be sure what the fall looks like. We totally get that and just ask that you communicate that with us. Also, we know times are challenging right now and we don't want a change in your financial situation to be a barrier to preschool. Our school/district offers tuition assistance. Please let us know if you would like an application for that. We very much want to support you and are eager to hear from you.
If your child is transitioning to kindergarten, I anticipate a transition plan coming soon. We are finalizing that at this time. Don't panic! We have some creative ideas for making sure the transition is successful for all of our students. Our Kindergarten teachers are excited to see all of our friends in September.
If you have any questions about either kindergarten or preschool, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Remember, our google site is updated weekly, so be sure to check it out for new home learning opportunities. We have added some printable activities to support hands on learning. These can be accessed either on line or by printing them. We hope you enjoy them.

Why Worsksheets May Not Be Best For Young Children
Young children learn by doing and exploring. They need to manipulate items, ask questions, problem solve and concretely engage with things in order to learn best. Now you know why they touch everything! Our home learning opportunities are designed with this in mind. Although commercial workbooks may be readily available right now and initially interesting for your preschooler, they are really not the best way for your child to learn. These types of items promote rote learning rather than critical thinking and problem solving. Also, requiring students to engage in structured paper pencil tasks can cause fine motor issues later. Their little muscles just aren't ready for it yet. You can encourage them to draw lines and shapes. This helps to prepare them for writing at some point. There are many ways to engage young children in learning tasks without using commercial workbooks. Let us know if you need more ideas! We are happy to help and support you in all that you are doing with your child right now.
