Kinder Kapers

August 21-25, 2017

Welcome, Class of 2030!

We are so excited to begin a new school year with your precious children. We are looking forward to a year of laughter, fun, hard work, and growth. A special thank you to all those who made it out for Meet the Teacher! We loved getting to meet you and introduce your children to our classrooms.

This newsletter is how we will communicate grade level news to you. You will be emailed a new link each Monday by your child's teacher. We appreciate you taking the time to read it carefully, as we often include very important information such as upcoming events, math homework, special requests and others.

It's going to be a great year in kindergarten!

Please send your child to school in close- toed, rubber soled, shoes each day. The floor in our gym was specially made and this is the only type of shoe allowed. This is also the best shoe for recess. Thank you!

We will have a brief snack time every afternoon. It is very important that you send your child with a snack DAILY. We have a very early lunchtime and their little tummies need a snack before the end of the school day. Please follow the guidelines below in sending a snack for your child:

  • No nut products for snack (nut products for lunch are fine)
  • Snack needs to be dry and not require any utensils (ex. please no yogurt, applesauce, etc)
  • No candy or soda

Your child will need headphones for many of our activities. We have a limited amount of headphones here at school, however we have found that our students are more comfortable using personal headphones. Please consider sending your child with headphones that can stay at school. Please do not send earbuds as they do not fit or stay in their little ears.

Special Message from Our Specials Teachers (Music, PE, Art)

As parents of a GES student, You will receive a letter inviting you to join ClassDojo. This is a digital tool used by PE, music, and art to communicate with our students and parents. Each child receives a unique code created for them. This code is private and viewed only by you, your child, and their specials's teachers. We strongly encourage you to join, so that you can receive immediate feedback on your child's behaviors while attending our classes. While we do occasionally note positive behaviors we see during our classes, it is used mostly to communicate areas of concern. Our hopes are that you might check ClassDojo daily with your child to offer compliments on a job well done, or visit with them about noted behaviors, and provide counsel to them should this situation arise again in the future. This is by far the best tool we have found to use as a team to help redirect unproductive behaviors prior to them escalating. Thank you for your support in working with us to help your child succeed in this new year. If you have any questions, please contact our Learning Leader, Michelle Basil, for more information.

Label Your Items

Please take the time to label ALL of your child's personal items. This will hopefully ensure that all of your things return home to you each day. Please write first and last names, or first initial and last name, on backpacks, lunch boxes, jackets, sweaters, and hats (when weather gets cooler).

Extra set of clothes

To prepare for a spill or accident, please make sure your child always has a clean set of clothes in a plastic bag within his or her backpack.

Going Home

We know that sometimes plans change regarding how your child will be getting home. If there is a day in which your child will be going home differently than normal, please send a note to school in your child's STAR folder notifying the teacher. If you become aware of a pick-up change that affects the current day, please call the front office to make them aware and they will send a note back to your child's teacher. Please DO NOT send your child's teacher an email notifying them of last minute dismissal changes. We are focused on teaching your children and might not see the email in time.

We LOVE and APPRECIATE your donations!

If you're interested in donating items to your child's teacher, below is a wish list that would greatly benefit our classrooms. Thank you for helping us provide the best materials for your children.
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Markers
  • Black Dry Erase Markers
  • Baby Wipes
