The Bailey Bunch Kindergarten News
Ms. Bailey & Mrs. Shumpert's Class: Week of Oct. 19th
Report cards will be coming home on Oct. 26th. Our grading system consists of the numbers 1,2,3, and 4 for each indicator. The numbers represent your child's understanding/ progress. The grades are as follows: 1=beginning 2=developing 3=meeting and 4= exceeds grade level expectations. Please understand that each grade consists of several indicators that determine the overall number score for the Power Standards you will see.
Kindergarten teachers worked together this 9 weeks to determine the overall score for many of our indicators. You may see several 2s on this report card. Please do not let this cause stress or concern. We simply need time to "develop" many of these important beginning of the year concepts.

Kid's Korner
If you have not already done so, please make a safety plan with your family in the event of a house fire or emergency. We learned about having a meeting place that is safe and away from the house, such as by a mailbox or curb. These simple plans will help keep you and your family safe, so please take time to make a plan. Also, please check the batteries in all smoke detectors and practice STOP, DROP, and ROLL.
Check out these pictures below to see how we make learning FUN!
A Peek at the Week
Math-
Counting objects from 1-20, understanding that the arrangement of the objects doesn't change the number, shapes (2D/3D), ordinal numbers, story problems with Halloween themes.
Writing Workshop-
As we continue to write books we are working on making our words go from left to right, and spacing between words. We will also start to locate the keys on an electronic device (iPad,computer, keyboard). We will also learn when to use upper-case letters, (beginning of sentences and for the first letter in our names).
We will also work on staying on one topic throughout our whole book.
Reading Workshop- We are reviewing letters and letter sounds. If your child knows all letters in random order, practice letter sounds. Use the ABC chart in his/her binder to help. A,a, apple, B,b ball, etc.
Social Studies- Maps--We will focus on our city and places we go in our neighborhoods. Help your child learn his/her address and phone number
Name Writing- Please help your child practice writing his/her first name using the proper letter formation and only capitalize the first letter. See examples of letter formations in your child's binder if you need assistance.
Counting- Please help your child by putting items in a line and practice counting, saying the number name, and touching each object as he/she counts aloud.
