Easley Weekly Update
Everything You Need to Know For The Coming Week
October 18, 2020
A Note from the principal
Hello Easley families,
We made it through the first quarter! Thank you for your continued support as we navigate remote learning and virtual school. I can't tell you how much I wish we were beginning the second quarter all together in the building as we have in years past; unfortunately, that isn't possible. We've made adjustments for second quarter and hope they will make things run as smoothly as possible, given the circumstances. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns. or suggestions.
Quarter Two Revised Schedule
Please click this link to view the updated schedule. You can also view the updated schedule on the school website. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to either your child's classroom teacher or school administration. Classroom teachers will be posting specific times for their Wellness Wednesday classroom zooms.
Teacher Workday
Tomorrow, Monday, is a Teacher Workday for staff and a Remote Learning Day for students. There will be no live instruction, however, per the state requirement, it is considered a school day for students. Classroom teachers will be posting assignments for students to work on over the course of the day. Attendance will be taken based on the completion of assignments and students logging into Canvas. In order for students to be marked present, they must log into Canvas.
PTA Meeting
Our next PTA meeting is tomorrow evening, Monday, October 19th at 6:30 PM via Zoom. You can access the zoom link in the email version of this message.
Media Center Updates
Thank you to everyone who has taken the curbside library book checkout survey so far. We’ve had a great response! The survey will close Monday evening and the gift card winner will be contacted Tuesday morning. Any adjustments to the program based on the feedback will be announced next week. If you haven’t taken it, yet please do so. We are looking for feedback from families that have and have not used the service.

Also, since Monday is a Remote Learning day, the pickup will be unstaffed- meaning you will have to look for your student’s bag on the cart which will be left in the back bus parking lot near the gym doors. There will also be a bin for returns.
Kids Voting
As a school, along with most other schools in the DPS, we are participating in Kids Voting. Kids Voting Durham is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that help Durham’s young people understand and believe in the power they have as active citizens and informed voters. Over the next couple weeks teachers will be teaching students about the election process, reading books about voting, and reviewing a sample ballot (a kid friendly ballot put out by Kids Voting). On Monday, November 2nd student will be given the opportunity to vote on the Kids Voting website. Please be reminded this is a non-partisan organization and the intent behind the instruction is to teach students about the election process and the importance of being active citizens. Should you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out and ask. Please click here to view the parent letter.
You can also view more information by visiting the Kids Voting Durham website.
Family Academy a DPS Virtual Class Series
The District is hosting a series of family academy events with helpful topics such as getting familiar with your digital tools, learning about the new reading curriculum, and positive behavior supports just to name a few.
