Kid's Konnection
Issue 4
"Hey, unto YOU a child is born!"
Let me back up. Maybe you don't know who The Herdman's are. My favorite Christmas book is The best Christmas Pageant ever by Barbara Robinson. The summary of the book is as follows:
"Laughs abound in this bestselling Christmas classic by Barbara Robinson! The Best Christmas Pageant Ever follows the outrageous shenanigans of the Herdman siblings, or “the worst kids in the history of the world.” The siblings take over the annual Christmas pageant in a hilarious yet heartwarming tale involving the Three Wise Men, a ham, scared shepherds, and six rowdy kids.
Ralph, Imogene, Leroy, Claude, Ollie, and Gladys Herdman are an awful bunch. They set fire to Fred Shoemaker’s toolshed, blackmailed Wanda Pierce to get her charm bracelet, and smacked Alice Wendelken across the head. And that’s just the start! When the Herdmans show up at church for the free snacks and suddenly take over the Christmas pageant, the other kids are shocked. It’s obvious that they’re up to no good. But Christmas magic is all around and the Herdmans, who have never heard the Christmas story before, start to reimagine it in their own way.
This year’s pageant is definitely like no other, but maybe that’s exactly what makes it so special."
That last sentence sums up the book the best and describes the feeling, for me, that comes with reading the book. I really recommend this book, at any age.
Because this birth we celebrate is like no other, and that's EXACTLY what makes it so special.
A baby changed everything.
But, that one birth.
a child born of a young mother. A girl. Scared, lonely, uncertain but yet ready to take on this role that God had willed for Her life.
A young husband...in a situation has never happened before. A birth story like NO other. Joseph, soon to be a father of a son conceived by the Holy Spirit.
A baby, born human, yet holy above all and meant to save us from a world of sin.
It's a story that had never been told and would never happen that way again. We cannot understand a love so strong, a baby so special and parents so humble. It would change the world and bring salvation for all.
Yes, for unto US a child is born. A son is given. Have you received Him? HE is the only gift we really need.
If you have time read The best Christmas pageant ever to your family. It is a great read and brings the nativity story a childlike focus. A moment of wonder when the "worst" kids ever (just like all of us) realize the story of Jesus birth, and they bring a new endearment to it.
Yes, Mary may have burped the baby Jesus and the wisemen may have wanted to bring their Christmas ham and the angel yelled too loudly...but, the reality of it is we should all want to shout "Hey for unto YOU a child is born!"
Best gift of all.
HAVE A BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS WITH YOUR FAMILIES!
