Back-to-School Night:
The following message was included in the previous newsletter; we repeat the information for those that may have missed this vital message...
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then visiting our school in person must equal about a million. That is why TPCA is hosting a back-to-school night on Friday, August 4th from 6:30 - 8:00 P.M. Take advantage of this opportunity to see the world your Eagle will inhabit every day and meet the people in charge. It's one of the best ways to begin to build that all-important home-school connection.
What to Expect
- When: August 4th 6:30 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.
- Who: You'll be able to meet your Eagle's teachers and Instructional Assistants, the principal, nurse, and other staff members, and of course your fellow parents. This is NOT an adults-only night, so bring your Eagle and his/her school supplies.
- Where: The evening will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the High School at 6:00. Then the parents and their Eagles will go back to the elementary school to visit with their Eagle's teacher(s). The first rotation will be held from 6:30 - 6:50, then another will be held at 7:00 - 7:20, and the final rotation will be held from 7:30 - 7:50. We ask that the parents remain in the classroom for the entire 20 minute presentation to learn about the exciting events that will take place this year, in addition to the expectations for the Eagles.
- What: This event will provide you with a glimpse of your Eagle's daily life at TPCA and an opportunity to learn about the spiritual and academic curriculum. You can also sign up to join the PTF and reserve your parent volunteer hours.
- Why: Research shows that parent involvement in schools helps students achieve more and schools thrive. Furthermore, joining the PTF is a great way to have a voice in school issues and decisions.
Visiting the Classroom
Our teachers will have you join your Eagle at their seat. This will make it easier for the teachers to keep track of which Eagle goes with which parent — especially since a parent may not share the same last name as her child. Plus, you get the opportunity to see the world of the classroom as your child does every day.
Once the session has begun, your Eagle's teacher will introduce himself/herself and give an overview of our Eagles' daily routines, schedules, goals, and activities — some of this may already be written on the board when you get there so your Eagle's teacher can dive right into the meat of things. He/She will also discuss her homework policy, discipline plan, and other important information such as if the maintenance of the classroom webpage and how to contact him/her.
The lengthiest part of the evening will be spent going over the curriculum and the methodology the teacher will use to reach the year's goals.
At the conclusion of the session, your Eagle's teacher will likely stop and take any questions you have about TPCA or the classroom. This will be your chance to ask general questions and to clarify anything you find confusing. However, this is not a time to discuss your child's individual needs or progress — save that for parent/teacher conferences when the teacher knows your Eagle better and can talk with you one-on-one.
We look forward to seeing you at the Back-To-School event!
