Winter Holiday Celebration

Reclassification Ceremony Celebration

Students from across the district were recognized by the board and their families on November 18 at McKinley School for their linguistic and academic achievements. What does this mean?

English Learner students must demonstrate the ability to access challenging academic content and interact with other students and teachers both academically and socially in an English language setting in order to be considered for reclassification. Evidence of this ability is demonstrated by the student on the annual English language proficiency assessment.

We celebrate the following students from Orion and Mandarin Immersion:

Emma Chui Grade 2

Lekang Xie Grade 3

Naomi Segovia Cardenas Grade 5

Jonatan Siliezar Gonzalez Grade 5

Coffee with Principal Katherine

Starting this month, Principal Katherine will be holding informal coffees for groups of grade level families. This is an opportunity in a smaller group setting to ask questions, give grade level specific feedback while collaborating and communicating school wide goals and needs.

We will meet in the staff room located in the main building after drop off.

Attendance Campaign begins December 9

The staff and community are working together to get students to class on time and ready to learn. Thank you families for sharing strategies and suggestions on what works. Leaving home 5 minutes early was the number 1 suggestion by families to get kids into class on time and reduce overall stress of increased traffic.

Starting Dec. 9 parent volunteers will be at the school entrance on the Myrtle side of school to pass out late passes to students arriving late instead of walking all the way to the office.

Thank you families for your support.

Early Bird Kindergarten Morning Routine Change

Our kindergarten families will have a new morning routine starting the week of Dec.9.

Early bird and later gator groups will both line up outside of the classroom instead of outside.

We are making these changes for two reasons:

1. Parents will have a chance to talk to each other and build community.

2. The rainy season is upon us. If it rains the week of Dec. 2, please start this new routine right away. Teachers will be communicating this new procedure.

Rainy Day Procedures

The rain is here!!! Safety is always our number one priority. During a rainy day all staff and students follow our school wide procedures to keep everyone safe and comfortable.

Before school: 7:45-8:15am - Students and families inside the cafeteria where it is warm and dry.

Recess and lunch breaks: Students go to the cafeteria. Grades k-2 are dismissed to class for free time after eating. Grades 3-5 stay in MUB, maker space or library.

After school: Students walk to designated program or meeting place with family.
