Gwinnett County Public Schools: Finalist for Broad Prize
On September 22, 2014 @ 12:00 PM U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will announce the Broad Prize winner. GCPS is one of two finalist this school year. Share what you love most about our schools and why GCPS should win on FB/Twitter. Include @GwinnettSchools, #broadprize, and a picture.
CogAT Testing Week of September 15th
Students in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 5th grade will be taking the CogAT test all week. Students need to be in the classroom by 8:00 AM daily. Late arrivals will not be admitted to the classroom and will need to report to the media center. Students who are absent or tardy will need to complete two test the following day.
No Lunch or Classroom Visitors
Due to testing, we are not hosting any parents for classroom visits or lunch the week of September 15th. Testing will be completed by September 22, 2014. Parents are welcome to eat with their children beginning the week of September 22nd.
We will have ITBS testing in October, and will have no visitors during this time. Thank you for helping us maintain a testing environment.
Early Release Conferences
Have you scheduled your parent conference? Teachers have conference schedules posted on the Benefield website . Select your child's teacher and select a time convenient for your schedule. We have limited Spanish translators.
School dismissed at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, September 24th and Thursday, September 25th.
Instruction begins at 8:00 AM
We begin teaching and learning at 8:00 AM. Breakfast is served from 7:35 AM - 8:00 AM. We want our students reading and writing on or above grade level, so we provide additional instructional time for your child. All students need to be in the classroom by 8:00 AM.
Car rider and buses unload beginning at 7:35 AM.
BYOD
Students are allowed to BYOD: Bring Your Own Device at Benefield. Parents must complete a consent form (found on our website) and students receive a decal to apply to their device. Devices are for instructional uses only. Students are restricted from using their devices for text messaging, photos, or videos that are not instructional.
Fall Book Fair
The fall book fair begins on Friday, September 19th. The book fair will be open during early release.
One Hour Challenge
Have you taken the one hour challenge? Mrs. Cross and Ms. Curtis are asking our parents and community to volunteer one hour this school year. If you are ready for the challenge, please contact the Parent Center at 678-518-6981.
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
We are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at Benefield. We have several activities planned. One activity involves the students selecting an influential Hispanic to identify their contributions and/or three facts. Students are encouraged to represent their selected individual by dressing up on Friday, September 19th.
Chik Fil A Spirit Night
Congratulations to Mrs. Randolph's 5th grade class for winning August's spirit night! The class will receive an ice cream party.

Stevi B's Pizza Spirit Night
Have a great night out with your family at Stevi B's on Pleasant Hill Drive. Benefield's spirit night will be on Friday, September 26th (5:30 - 7:30 PM).
