Ms. Kawa's ELA Class

A note from Ms. Kawa

This year I wanted to try a few new ways of communicating with parents. The first is that I have set up a Twitter account where I will share pictures and videos of your students during the class period. Students will submit their twitter comments and hashtags to me and I will combine and submit as many as possible. Please follow me on twitter @tkawa_t. The second way is through an individualized newsletter. In this newsletter, your student will write about what they have been learning this year. If you have any further questions, you may reach me through email, or leave a message at 630-766-2601. Thank you for all of your support this year.

Our class read aloud is Neal Shusterman's Unwind. So far we have been discussing the changes characters are undergoing and how that enhances the plot.

We have recently completed working with standard RI3 which is focusing on key ideas, events, or individuals. We began by reading about Cesar Chavez. From there we learned about a dog that helped Lewis and Clark on their journey. We ended by studying about the life of Nelson Mandela and how he fought against apartheid.
