Hawaiian Kingdom Overthrown
The Kingdom of Hawaii has been Overthrown.
Thesis
January 17, 1893 was the day the Hawaiian kingdom was over thrown and this would not have been possible if it wasn’t for Pres. Harrison, Pres. Cleveland and Minister John Stevens.
Minister John L. Stevens
Minister John L. Stevens was signed to Hawaii in 1983. He believed Hawaiians shouldn’t be able to hold power because he was racist, he believed that Hawaiians are child-like and semi-barbaric. Minister John L. Stevens gave the order to the Marines to march into Honolulu to protect the committee of Safety’s militia. The queen surrendered peacefully to avoid violence. Minister John threatens the Queen and asked her to surrender to the provisional government, she surrenders to the US.
Pres. Grover Cleveland
President Benjamin Harrison
Benjamin Harrison was President of the United States during the rain of Kalakaua. He signed the Reciprocity Treaty which stated that Hawaii would not be charged a tariff or a tax on the sugar sent to the US in 1876. In 1889 the Bayonet Constitution was created. Another Reciprocity Treaty was created but this time the US says they will only renew the treaty if you annex Pearl Harbor over to the US.
Historical Significance
Conclusion
Is Hawai'i Legally and Lawfully a State of the Union
Hawai’i is an amazing place to come and visit, but, was the Harbor and scenery worth it, putting the natives through all that suffering? I don’t believe it is legally and lawfully a state of the union only because we forced Hawai’i to sign the Annexation. How could something be forced upon someone be legal? I don’t believe America tried there best to have Hawai’i annexed properly.
