Message from the Principal

Mighty WBS Dolphins...

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope the limits of social distancing didn’t stop the reach of Cupid’s arrow and that this edition of the Dolphin Digest finds you feeling the love.

This week I’ve decided to highlight the work of a recent alumnus and poet, Roland Grise 6th Grader, Ms. Chloe Conti. I share this with you for a couple of reasons. The first is to send a little love to sweet Chloe and to showcase her talent. Once a Mighty WBS Dolphin, always a Mighty WBS Dolphin! We’re proud of her and all of our alumni, especially for those who had to make the transition to Middle, High School, or college in the throes of the pandemic. The second reason is to use her poetry as a reminder to our school community to read…and to read OFTEN. Technology has been so pervasive over the past several months, both for education and for entertainment, I just thought our school community could benefit from the pertinent and refreshing message of Chloe’s poem.

It All Comes Back to Books
By: Chloe Conti

Books are for the mind

You look

You hear

You smell

It all comes back to books

The smell of a new book

You look at the new words and pages

Your mind drowns out the noise of everything else

It's just you and the book

You ride into the story

You smell the air and the food

You hear all of the people rushing to do their daily tasks

You see the characters

They don't see you

But you see them clearly

It all comes back to books

The author describes what you see

And you thank them

They can't hear you

But you still say it

It all comes back to books

You replayed what happened

But the characters don't feel a thing

You watch the story fall into the hands of the author

And you think

It all comes back to books

But then reality hits

That is not your world

They can't see you

You can't talk to them

Your mom brings you back to present life, just in time for dinner

You know you will see them soon

Tonight probably

You remember you read every night

You say goodbye

And close the book

It all comes back to books

This year will be what we make it…let’s make it amazing! Welcome my friends, to Week 25!
