Dressing for Winter
5 for Outside:
Students who wish to play in the snow should wear 5 for outside. The 5 for outside are: boots, snow pants, jackets, gloves, and hat. This allows children to freely play without getting their clothing wet.
Boots & Dry Shoes:
After snow has fallen we encourage all students to wear boots for outdoor recess. Most of our playground is unpaved so students will be walking through snow as they play outside at recess. Please help students remember to pack dry shoes to change into after coming inside. Elementary students spend a lot of time sitting in the carpet for lessons and activities and wet spots from boots can make that very uncomfortable.
Dry Clothes:
Please consider having a bag with an extra set of clothes (especially socks) in your child's backpack through the winter. Students may need a quick change if they become wet at recess. The nurse does not keep extra clothing for wet snow/mud accidents.
Label Clothing:
Please be sure to label student clothing, especially snow gear. My students have snow pants, boots and gloves that look similar and the last name on the tag allows us to return the item to the student. Please also do this with sweatshirts and other clothing items that might be removed during the day. Our lost and found gets very large in the winter and we prefer to return items directly to students when possible.

Winter Weather
As we prepare to enter the winter months, there may be times there is a delay or cancelation of school. Here are things you should know:
- First, every effort will be made to communicate a school cancellation or two-hour delay in a timely manner through a One Call Now voice message. In most cases, this will be the morning of school between 5:30-6:00 AM.
- A message will be posted to our school Facebook Page and Website as soon as they can be updated.
- If there is a cancellation due to snow, students will not attend classes remotely. We do have five days built into the school calendar, so we will not need to make up canceled school days due to snow unless we exceed five days.
- It is also important to note that when school is canceled for the day, all after-school clubs and sports are also canceled.
Report Cards
- Report cards will be sent digitally via ALMA on December 7th.
- As classrooms move through the curriculum, some competencies are assessed during a single trimester and others are not. This will be reflected in the empty boxes on the report card. By the end of the school year, all competencies will be assessed multiple times, allowing for students to show growth.
- Kindergarten students receive narratives that reflect student development skills taught during the trimester and do not receive a numerical grade.
