Back to School
Thank you to our Hawthorne families for joining us last night for our Back to School presentations. We were very excited to welcome you to our vibrant learning spaces. As we establish routines and get to know each other, each classroom becomes a community.
The first few weeks of school are an adjustment. Your children may come home a bit tired and hungry. They will probably need a little extra downtime and a few more hugs.
We are here to support you as we build new routines together. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Playground Update
Over the course of the next two weeks we are hoping to have the playground structure completed and the playground surfacing set up. We are looking forward to opening our playground before the end of September. In the meantime we will continue to use our other outdoor spaces for recess.
September BOE Meeting
On September 20th there will be a presentation at the BOE meeting on the proposed instructional bond. In addition to addressing space constraints at Hawthorne, the proposal includes upgrades to instructional spaces, and improvements focused on safety and security.
Reminders
Please make sure to have your child's dismissal information updated in School Dismissal Manager. If you need to request an alternate stop, please fill out the Alternate Stop Request Form. Once approved, call Christine Gianfrancesco at 914 769-8536 x 4502 to update School Dismissal Manager. Please see the School Dismissal Manager Step-by-Step Set Up instructions for more support.
Hawthorne is a nut-free school. Please do not send in products made with peanuts, tree nuts or Sun Butter. Please send your child to school with a healthy nut-free snack. You may send your child to school with lunch or they can purchase lunch in the cafeteria.
Elementary PTA Corner
Hello Parents,
Welcome new and returning parents to the 2023-2024 school year. We hope you enjoyed the summer break.
The PTA has many great fundraisers and events planned this year. As you may already be aware, PTA is a group of parent volunteers who are dedicated to ensure the children’s education is enriched with activities and programs that the schools budget cannot provide. We invite you to volunteer, attend our meetings, and share ideas. We cannot do this without your help!
Please be sure to create an account on the PTA website to stay connected with the PTA community for volunteer opportunities, meetings, events, and updates throughout the year.
Have a great year and we hope to see you soon!
Best,
Rae Riccobono and Denise Lembo
Co-Presidents
