Principal's Goals
"I will continue to facilitate a school-wide PLC campus culture with a primary focus to close the achievement gap amongst our minority and historically low performing students. We will use academic, discipline and other pertinent data in the development of targeted interventions to help close the achievement gap."
Words of the Week
Schoolwide initiatives can really make a difference (for better or for worse). Entire schools have been turned around by one simple strategy. So how do we make sure a schoolwide initiative isn’t a flop? Remember “New Coke” in the 80s? What a disaster! Of course, whatever we decide to do as an entire school must be well-researched and have a strong educational benefit for all involved. You see, those of us who’ve been in education for quite some time remember things like cooperative learning, whole language, learning styles, FISH philosophies, SHIRLEY English, and the list goes on and on. But did those have lasting effects? Was everyone on board?
When considering any schoolwide initiative, we must consider the WHY, and every stake-holder must be willing to buy in because he/she fully understands the WHY. Let’s make sure everyone is on board. When all members of the campus community have an understanding that matches that of the ones who are spearheading the initiative, our efforts to spread a practice across our campus will work...and make an impact.

From a Former Student
Hi Mr. Monteverde. This is Logan Markey from your Spanish class last year. I've been meaning to tell you this but I just kept forgetting. Do you remember when Mrs. Denuszek came into the classroom and told me that I had failed the staar test, the day of the Spanish final exam? After she told me this you came over to talk to me and told it would be okay because I was upset. Well, after practicing everyday during the summer until the retest... I passed. Not only did I pass, it was the best I have ever gotten on a staar test and I was ecstatic! Anyways I just wanted to say thank you for believing in me and telling me that it would be okay because I was pretty upset with myself. I appreciate it so much and it meant a lot. I hope your school year is going good so far. Gracias por el optimismo!

From Robin Woodard to Jackie and Patricia
Hi Brian,
I had a conference scheduled for 4:15 yesterday and realized at 4:10 that the translator was out. I went to the front office with the student to wait for his mom, and I started panic. Jackie asked me what she could do to help—and you know how busy the office is at 4:15. She put everything on hold to help me while Patricia offered to translate. Jackie asked if she alleviated my stress—oh boy, had she. When I said, “Yes,” she just smiled. Both of those ladies’ smiles make my day when I see them; they are such an asset to our school and represent MHS well.
I just love them both and am so thankful for them—and I don’t let them know often enough. They ROCK!

Dear PISD Employee,
What is a Conflict of Interest?
Conflicts of interest are situations in which Plano ISD employees may have the opportunity to influence business or academic decisions in ways that could lead to personal gain, give improper advantage to self or others, or interfere inappropriately with the preservation, generation, or public dissemination of knowledge such that an independent observer might reasonably question whether the individual's professional actions or decisions are influenced by considerations of personal gain, financial or otherwise. A conflict of interest depends on the situation, and not on the character or actions of the individual.
All employees are required to disclose any relationships or activities that might give rise to conflicts, or the appearance thereof, with their duties, responsibilities, or obligations to Plano ISD. A potential conflict of interest may arise when an employee's extracurricular vendor relationships interfere or compete with one another or with that individual's relationship to the District. A conflict may also occur due to family relationships to vendors.
Conflicts of interest are not necessarily unwarranted, unethical, or illegal. Furthermore, conflicts of interest are not always avoidable.
Disclosures should be made as early as possible to enable those reviewing them to consider what action, if any, needs to be taken regarding any potential conflicts of interest. The failure to disclose situations that have the potential for or involve actual conflicts of interest, however, may be unethical and/or illegal.
We ask that all employees complete the conflict of interest questionnaire by October 31, 2018.
