From Mr. Clemente

Dear Winter Park Band families,

This week we are excited to welcome in our future Band students and families for our annual Middle School Night football game! This event is always a fun and special night for the middle school students to see the high school students and get the chance to be a member of the "Sound of the Wildcats" for a night. It is also a night that is central to our Winter Park Band community, helping our current students to take ownership of the future of the Band, easing many reservations and answering questions incoming students and parents have about the high school band, and maintaining the connection between all grade levels of what I like to consider our grade 6 - 12 program.

We will be taking our group photo of the SOTW this Friday before we load the buses to head to Showalter field. Please make note of the earlier arrival time on the itinerary for this week's football game.

This coming Saturday, 40 of our Winter Park Band students will be auditioning for this year's Florida All-State Ensembles. They have been putting a ton of hard work into preparing their audition materials, and everyone I have heard so far is very much on the right track to have a successful audition. Best of luck to all of you, and remember to relax, be confident, and breathe deeply.

Let's make it a great week!

Mr. Clemente

Week of September 12, 2021

Hi everyone. Thank you so much to all of our fantastic volunteers who helped with another rainy game, delayed a bit, but lots of fun! We so appreciate everyone who is so consistently helpful and those trying it for the first time! Please see CutTime for volunteer opportunities. There are only 7 more games, so please see the calendar and sign up today!

A very enthusiastic thank you to Amanda Schaefer, who has graciously agreed to take over the uniform coordinator position. This is a huge help to our students and the band program, so THANK YOU Amanda and your team of wonderful parents who have been coordinating all things uniform-related!! If you are interested in helping Amanda, please email me at, and I am happy to connect you. Please stay tuned for uniform needs towards the end of the season (washing unforms). Thank you to Jessica Fox and Mary Barnard (former band parents) for all of their help this year and with the transition to Amanda!

Middle School night is next week! Middle School Night gives middle school students the opportunity to sit/play with our band, to get a feel for what marching band is all about in high school. If you know any band students at any of the feeder middle schools or at magnet schools who are coming to Winter Park next year and who might not know about this night, PLEASE reach out and encourage them to attend. It is a lot of fun! Our directors, students, and parents can answer questions about all things band, and encourage the students/parents to continue in the band program in high school, so we will have an enthusiastic and involved incoming Freshman band class next year! Please help welcome the students and parents if you are volunteering or are in the stands. It makes a huge difference to the program.

Parents of Seniors-Senior Night is coming soon (October 22, 2021). We are planning some fun things for senior night (where the seniors and their parents are recognized on the field before the game), so if you would like to be involved in helping with the planning and execution, please email me at It would be wonderful to have a senior parent who would like to spearhead our efforts, although it will take a team to make it happen. Please let me know if you can help.

Thank you to those who got program ads, dedications, and sponsorships in for the program this year. It’s going to look great!! Thank you to Julie for continuing to coordinate all of the program efforts also! We can’t wait to see the program at the first concert (September 29).

Have a great week everyone, and best of luck to the students auditioning for All State this weekend.

Homecoming Parade and "Roar"

This year's Homecoming Parade and "Roar" event is coming up quickly on our calendar! The parade and pep rally will occur on Park Ave. on Wednesday, September 22 at 5:30 PM. The Marching Band will wear our Summer Uniform which includes our 2021 Show Shirt, Tan/khaki shorts, a belt, athletic shoes, and socks. The SOTW will march in the parade and then immediately move to the stage in Central Park to setup for the "Roar" pep rally. After the pep rally concludes, the Band will then load buses and return to the Main Campus. A full itinerary will be available for the parade this week.

We encourage everyone to consider purchasing the BBQ dinner to help support the PTSA. If you plan to order food for your student, remember they cannot eat while performing. Please order a take-out option for them to eat after they perform.

Whether a student is learning a musical instrument to pursue a career in music, or simply for personal musical fulfillment and recreation, private lessons are one of the best investments that a parent can provide for their musical child. When working with a private teacher, students receive one-on-one instruction from a professional musician who specializes on that instrument.

Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!

By following the link below, you will find a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you know a private teacher who should be added (or would like to be deleted), please contact Mr. Clemente at
