Charles Dickens was a famous writer. he wrote several books, including a Christmas carol. he was born on February 7, 1812 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. He was born second of twelve children. when he was just fifteen he had to quit school to support his family. The reason his family was poor was mostly because of the poor law passed in 1601. poverty effected his family a little bit. Charles was married on April 2, 1836 to Catherin. When Charles was older, he had enough money to be in the middle class, but he was horrible at keeping money and ended up being poor. his book sales were enough to keep him and his family alive in a good house. One of his daughters died at age 15. This death caused him to go in an era of depression. In this era, he wrote depression and dark stories. When Charles dickens died, he was 58. before he died he was in the middle of a book.
