February 2020
No School Reminder
February 17-21 - Presidents Day and February vacation.
How Much Inactive Time Is Too Much?
It is okay for your preschooler to have quiet time. Here are some tips for making sure your preschooler is not inactive too often:
- Limit TV and screen time to less than 2 hours daily, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
- Try to make inactive time reading time rather than TV time.
- Quiet time is best before naps or bed.
As a parent, you have an impact on your preschooler’s behaviors and activities. Be a role model and try to limit your own time spent sitting, such as watching TV. Your preschooler will learn that being physically active is part of a healthy life.
Helpful guidelines:
- After 60 minutes of inactivity (such as watching TV) have your child get up and do something active for a while.
- Avoid having the TV on during mealtimes.
- Only put TVs in family rooms. Don’t put a TV in your child’s bedroom. This helps your preschooler spend less time watching TV.

February is Children’s Dental Health Month
Even though many of our students have completed the "teething" stage, it is very important to check their teeth and develop good dental habits early. Please remember that healthy teeth need:
- Regular visits to the dentist - every six months for evaluation, cleaning, fluoride treatment, and sealants as needed. START NOW!
- A nutritious diet - with adequate calcium found in dairy products to build strong bones and teeth. Fruits and vegetables high in Vitamin C promote healthy gums.
- Regularly brushing with fluoridated toothpaste at least twice a day.
- Flossing once a day.
Important Safety Reminders
As you have noticed, we close the drop off line beginning at 8:15 a.m. (9:00 a.m. for the young child class). This is to insure that all staff are in classrooms to start the school day for your children by 8:15 am. Any cars in the line up until 8:15 will continue to drop off until that group of cars is unloaded. However if you are late, we ask that you park in the front parking lot area and bring in your child.
We appreciate your cooperation in not using a cell phone when picking up or dropping off your child(ren). This has been very important in insuring the safety of children/families and the BLOCKS staff.
Playground equipment and gym: Only those children with Preschool teachers and staff may use the outdoor playground equipment or the indoor gym during school hours.
Drop off time: If you transport your child to school it is very important that you bring him/her to school on time each day. It is important for your child, and less disruptive to the class, that everyone begin the day together and participate in all activities. We appreciate any effort you can make to help your child start the day with his/her classmates.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
