Author Tim O’Brien, Keynote Address,

Presented by Glocester & Foster Public Libraries with Foster-Glocester Regional Schools

Wednesday, January 16, 6:30 p.m., Ponaganset High School Auditorium

NEA/Big Read Keynote Speaker will be Tim O’Brien, author of the Pulitzer Prize Finalist, The Things They Carried. Tim O’Brien received the National Book Award in Fiction in 1979 for his novel, Going After Cacciato. His novels have sold more than 3.5 million copies. This is a ticketed only free event. Snowman Scavenger Hunt

Wednesday, January 2 through Thursday, January 31, during library hours, Harmony Library and Glocester Manton Library

“Drop in” to Glocester Manton Library or the Harmony Library for a fun Snowman Scavenger Hunt. Frosty will be hiding in our Children’s Room and will move to a new location each week. Each child that finds him will receive a fun snowman sticker and be entered to win a winter gift basket. **One entry per child per week, please.


Johnny Lightning Race Club: Hot Wheels Monster Trucks

Saturday, January 5, 11 a.m., Glocester Manton Library

Age Level: 6 years old and up

The Johnny Lightning Race Club brings their Hot Wheels Monster Trucks and cool track to Glocester Manton Library. Participants will use the trucks provided but may also bring their own trucks. Each child will receive a Hot Wheels car to take home at the conclusion of the program! Registration is required.


Snowman Party

Wednesday, January 16, 4:30 p.m., Harmony Library

Age Level: Grades K-5

Children, grades K-5, are invited to a Snowman Party. We will have snowman snacks, do a snowman craft, and play Snowman Bingo for prizes! Registration is required.

Winter/Spring 2019 Story Time Programs

Baby Story Time (Ages: infant to 2 years)

Thursdays at 10 a.m., Harmony Library

Join us for reading, singing, bouncing, playing, and fun! This program is designed to be a weekly program for babies and caregivers to attend together. Begins January 24.


Toddler Time (ages 2 - 3 ½)

Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., Harmony Library and Fridays at 10:30 a.m., Glocester Manton Library

Join us for stories, songs, finger plays, flannel activities, and social play to ready your toddler for preschool and beyond. Begins January 22 at the Harmony Library and January 25 at the Glocester Manton Library.


Preschool and Kindergarten (3½ – 5)

Wednesdays at 11 a.m., Glocester Manton Library and Thursdays at 11 a.m., Harmony Library

The preschool programs are designed to help your child develop skills that are fundamental building blocks for school readiness. Children will read stories, engage in movement/music activities, and do a craft. Children are encouraged to participate independently while caregivers remain in the library. Begins January 23 at Glocester Manton and January 24 at Harmony.

Adult Programs

Cookbook Club

Monday, January 7, 6 p.m., Harmony Library

Our cookbook for this January is The Negative Calorie Diet: Lose up to 10 Pounds in 10 Days with 10 All You Can Eat Foods by Rocco DiSpirito. If you would like to join, register online and then drop by the Harmony Library to pick up a copy of the book.


Tuesday Movie Matinee

Tuesday, January 8, 15, 22, and 29, 2 p.m., Glocester Manton Library

Tuesday Matinees offer new feature films on the big screen. Registration is not necessary and the movies are free. Light refreshments are served. Bring a friend! The films for January include:

  • January 15 - A Simple Favor
  • January 22 - Operation Finale
  • January 29 - The Old Man and the Gun


Fearless Art Group

Wednesday, January 9 and January 23, 2 p.m., Glocester Manton Library

Each month, we explore different drawing challenges to spark our creativity and enhance our drawing skills. The topics of exploration are guided by the members. In January, we will explore the challenges of drawing winter landscapes. All levels of art experience are welcome. All materials will be provided.


Knitting for Beginners

Saturday, January 12, 1 p.m., Glocester Manton Library

January is a great month to learn to knit! These workshops will cover all you need to know to knit simple items. All materials will be provided, but if you have your own needles, please bring them with you. Registration is required.


Writers' Support Group
Thursday, January 17, 6 p.m., Harmony Library

Read and share your personal projects at this monthly meeting. This adult group is open to writers in all genres.


Bat Chat

Monday, January 28, 6 p.m., Harmony Library

Mary Grande, Wildlife Outreach Coordinator at the Department of Environmental Management, will give a presentation about bats. She will describe how DEM monitors bat populations in Rhode Island, and she will touch on conservation challenges that affect bats. Come with your questions!


Crochet Group

Monday, January 28, 6:30 p.m., Harmony Library

Beginners and crocheters that are more advanced are invited to learn and share their experience in a comfortable room for crochet and conversation! Ashley Ledoux, an experienced crocheter, will teach beginners and be available for assistance and advice.

Receive one-on-one instruction in learning how to use a computer, set up an email account, and search the Internet.


iPad Basics

Monday, January 7, 2 p.m., Harmony Library

Learn how to use the iPad at a comfortable pace. Bring your iPad and your questions.


e-Reader Basics

Wednesday, January 9, 3 p.m., Harmony Library

Learn how to set up and use your e-Reader to borrow eBooks from the Ocean State Libraries.


Technology Tuesday - Computer Basics
Tuesday, January 15 and January 29, 6 p.m., Harmony Library
Sign up for instruction in the basics of computer use, email, and Internet searching. If you want to work on Microsoft Office 2016, including Word, PowerPoint, or basic Excel, let us know when you register.


Resume Workshop

Need help creating our updating your resume? Attend this one-on-one workshop. Bring a written draft of your resume and a USB flash drive to save and/or print your resume.

Note: Participants should be able to type their own resume.
