2nd Grade Happenings

November 2, 2017

It was great to meet with all of you last week at conferences. I am excited about what the rest of the trimester holds for the 2nd graders with the amazing goals they made.

What is happening in 2nd Grade...

Math - The students took their test on 3-digit addition today. Next week we will start on 3-digit subtraction.

Social Studies - The children are about to begin learning about communities. Some of the topics that will be covered are:
  • People in communities need to get along with one another
  • We belong to many groups
  • People share places in the neighborhood
  • You are a citizen of your city, state and country
  • People and places change over time
  • Everyone has basic needs.

God's Time - We are starting a new chapter next week titled "God Gives Us Laws". The children will learn:

  • Jesus taught us the Great Commandment
  • The Ten Commandments help us to live as God's children
  • God wants us to show him our love and respect
  • God wants us to show that we love others as we love ourselves

Thanksgiving Food Basket Collection

St. Michael Parish School is starting up our November "Thanksgiving Food Basket" Drive. Each class is assigned a food item to bring in. 2nd Grade is asked to bring in Pie Ingredients. The drive runs from now until November 17th.

Also, if you would like to donate a turkey, you can donate $20. Middle school students will be at the entrance before and after school taking these donations.

The school is also looking for families to pick up a basket on November 17th and deliver it on either the 18th or 19th. Please let the Mrs. Rafferty ( krafferty@stmikesolympia.org ) know if you can deliver a basket.

This is a great way to be a disciple of Jesus Christ by giving generously from your heart.
