St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 4, WEEK 5 | 14 NOVEMBER 2019
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Please keep in your thoughts and prayers the Year 3 students who will be making their First Reconciliation on Saturday morning. Many thanks to Monsignor O’Loughlin, Miss Bechelli and Mrs Poole for preparing the students. Reconciliation certificates will be handed out at the Merit Assembly next week.
Just a reminder to families that the supervision of the school playground equipment does not happen before and after school. If students are playing on the equipment during these time without a parent or adult in attendance then the students will be asked to move off the play equipment. Parents or adults are required to be in attendance as a student may fall and hurt themselves and hence the adult needs to be in attendance to monitor the students’ safety. Some of the P&F parents organise structured play on the top playground before school. Please note that this does not come under the supervision of the school staff. Also a reminder that if during play on the play equipment after school and there is an issue between children then the issue is to be sorted out between the families who are in attendance during this time. The school is not responsible for student behaviour once a child is with a responsible adult, outside of school student supervision times.
Many thanks to all who made time to attend the School Board and P&F AGM's on Monday evening. Thank you to the following members of our school community for nominating and being elected to the following roles.

Christmas is fast approaching and the St Vincent de Paul Society has invited us to participate in their annual appeal to make a difference to someone's life this Christmas. Every class has a special tub to fill with non-perishable food items to help families facing challenging times over the festive period. Please ensure that all donated items are not due to expire for another 6 months.
We thank you for your kind support of this worthy cause. The baskets will be presented to a representative from St Vincent de Paul at our assembly on Friday 29 November 2019.
Choir News
On Monday our choir performed at our school Remembrance Service and also at the City Of South Perth Remembrance Service. So many people passed on their congratulations from both events. They enjoyed your singing and were impressed with how well you represented our school.
Thank you for all of your ongoing hard work.

Artist of the Week
Ruby from Yr 6 is the Artist of the Week. She was chosen because of her outstanding photography art! Ruby’s favourite thing about her artwork are the different angles she used. She likes her nature photo best, because she thought the low angle looked really interesting. Ruby likes art because she thinks it’s cool that there are so many different mediums.

Well done Ruby and Grace!
On 2 November my sister and I went to a presentation, as we were receiving an award after entering a time capsule competition. We had to draw our favourite place in Victoria Park. I drew a picture about small little libraries around the area and Grace drew a picture of Optus Stadium. Out of the whole of Vic Park, 12 winners were selected, and they would have their picture or writing printed on the tiles. The tiles would be placed on top of a time capsule. My sister and I were two of the twelve winners. They are going to open the capsule in 25 years. After that, we had afternoon tea. This photo shows our tiles.

Buy your bamboo toothbrush!
Nearly every single toothbrush made since the 1930s is still out there in the world somewhere, living on as a piece of trash. Recycle your plastic toothbrush, make the world a little greener, and get your own non-toxic, bamboo toothbrush which returns back to the Earth to breakdown.
On sale from Week 4 until stocks last, outside the school library. Support Year 6 and be part of the change!
School Uniform Shop - School Bags
The school Uniform Shop has a supply of school bags for sale at $55 each. The school Uniform Shop is open Tuesday mornings from 8.30am to 9am. They will also be available for purchase from the school office.

FROM PRINCIPAL’S REPORT 2019
It has been a busy year for our P&F Executive: Lara Tulett, Brooke Pink, Amy Crothers and Hayley Mitchell, with a number of fundraisers and events such as Retro Bingo, Dad’s and Children’s Night, Grandparents, Father’s Day and Mother’s Day celebrations. Much personal time is given to organise these – your generosity, help and hard work strengthens our community and provides resources that benefit the children. Our community thanks you.
We are very grateful to Lara Tulett for taking on the role of P&F President again and Larissa Barnao joins the P&F 2020 as Vice President. We are still seeking a Treasurer and Secretary – please get in touch if you would like to join the team!
With thanks.

DOSC's - Dads Interested in T20 Cricket Game
Only 3 sleeps to go for the Dads of St Columba’s (DOSCA) social game of T20 Cricket on Sunday 17th November at Morris Mundy Reserve, Kensington. The weather forecast of 30 degrees should make for a fun afternoon.
The game will start at 2pm so we invite dads playing to meet from 1:30pm for forming of teams and the rules for what will be an afternoon of fun. We won’t be taking it too seriously with bats available for use, no need for pads (unless you want to kit right up) as we will use a safety cricket ball too. Feel free to come along in your favourite cricket team attire or better yet dressed as your favourite player.
Water to keep hydrated will be available otherwise it will be a self-catering event.
Great to hear some families are planning a picnic to watch the dad’s play and Morris Mundy Reserve is a great environment for children too.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call or message Todd Dawson on 0447730656
'Cards that Count' Fundraiser
“Cards That Count” ordering will close at 7pm tonight. No further orders will be accepted past this time. Should you have any enquiries or difficulties ordering, please contact Samantha at ‘Cards That Count’ directly - sam@cardsthatcount.com.au.
