What's new in kindergarten? 9.16.16

Star Student

Congratulations Aden! Aden was chosen as the Star Student for all of kindergarten this week. Aden received many Tiger Tickets last week for showing the 3 R's: Respect, Responsibility, and Resourcefulness! Keep up the great work!

I turned in a TON of Tiger Tickets that were earned this week...maybe we will have another "Star" next week!

This Week...

This week in kindergarten we explored a couple new reading apps on our iPads: PebbleGo (website through Hamilton East Public Library) and Epic! When I asked the class what it meant to "explore" a new tool Brenna told us it meant to "learn new things". They learned SO MUCH already this week: patience, how to use their friends as a resource, how to solve problems on their own, and even some new interesting facts on PebbleGo.

Classroom Number Wall

We started making our classroom number wall...

Yesterday we started with 1 and 2 and today we finished 3-10! They look awesome!

Chaucie's Place

Fishers Elementary is partnering again this year with Chaucie’s Place, a child advocacy organization in Hamilton County, to bring Smart Steps™: A Body Safety Program for Children to our Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students. Smart Steps™ is a child sexual abuse prevention and education program that empowers your child to say “NO!” to any unwanted touches that make them uncomfortable from anyone. We invite you to attend a Chaucie’s Place Parent Night to learn more about the Smart Steps™ program. Lantern Road Elementary will be hosting from 6:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, September 22nd. These meetings are open to all parents and/or guardians of Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students. Please be advised that Parent Night is not open to children. The Body Safety Program will take place at Fishers Elementary School on October 4th.

Field Trips and Background Checks

If you wish to participate in upcoming field trips, a background check has to be on file. Background checks are good for three years. If you have not completed a background check or believe yours has expired, please follow the link below to complete your background check.

http://www.hse.k12.in.us/ADM/parents/volunteering.aspx

You will receive an email from info@safevisitor.com with a bar code ID once your background check is approved. You will use this bar code ID Badge when visiting the school for any reason. For field trips, we would like you to email a copy of your bar code ID Badge to your child’s teacher so we can have it in our files for future field trips throughout the year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

OUR FIRST FIELD TRIP IS COMING UP ON OCTOBER 11TH!
