AP Corner
1. Q: Why did the police arrest the turkey?
A: They suspected fowl play.
2. No school next week but if you miss seeing me that much, come to the basketball game on Monday to cheer on our men and lady Vikings take on Waco Robinson.
3. Need free childcare over the break. Coach Smith is happy to help, email him at dannysmithdaycareservices@gmail.com.org.edu *disclaimer : this isn't real.
4. Great way to start off the year! Our students are excelling in everything they do! Cross Country, Band, Volleyball, Football, and my new favorite term...mathletes! Basketball, the bar has been set high!
5. I am putting out this challenge for everyone to see. If Coach Fogg or Coach Kudrna accept the challenge, I know that I can beat them both in a free throw contest. Best out of 10 shots.
Early pricing for the yearbook ends tomorrow.
Old stuff that we leave in here in case you missed it:

Use of Canvas gradebook this year!
- Integration with the Assignments and Quiz functions within Canvas (auto grading, streamlined feedback, peer editing).
- Instant and improved communication with students on their assignment grades.
- Observer view (Parent view) allows for the parent to see grades and have access to the content as well as teacher comments.
- Uniformity of Canvas gradebook use across campus.
- Parents can still use TxConnect for a “big picture” look at a student’s grade and use Canvas for a detailed contextual look at student’s grades.
- In many cases, parents can access the actual assignment turned in by their student. This eliminates student responses of “I turned it in.” and “I’m not sure why I got a bad grade.”
Parents can create a Canvas Parent account by following the steps found here: http://classroom.lagovistaisd.net/default.aspx?LagoVistaHighSchool/Canvas. An even easier option is to have your student log in to their Canvas account and show you their current assignments and grades.
Attendance Matters
Our schoolwide attendance goal for this year is 97%. Our state funding is based on the percentage of students at school at 10:15 am every day. Higher attendance rate = more money for resources for your student.
For students who exceed our 96% goal, we are planning some more exciting rewards this year, such as a movie in the PAC, Kona Ice, and exam exemptions!
For students who miss school, here is some very important attendance information:
- 3 or more unexcused absences in a 4 week period - warning letter sent home, phone conference with at-risk coordinator and attendance improvement plan.
- 5 or more unexcused absences in a 6-week period - warning letter sent home, phone conference with administrator, attendance behavior plan reviewed.
- 7 or more unexcused absences in an 8-week period - warning letter sent home and Behavior Intervention Plan meeting called with the parents, student, and assistant principal.
- 10 or more unexcused absences in a 6 month period - truancy charges are filed. Parent, student and school administrator will be summoned to appear in truancy court.
Our campus goal is to reach 97% attendance each day.
