LAJH Guidance News

September 2017

The school year is off to a fabulous start at Lake Asbury Jr. High and the school counselors have been hard at work! During the week of August 21-25, the school counselors went into science classrooms to introduce themselves and visit with students. We discussed the roles/responsibilities of school counselors, how to access a counselor, the location of the Guidance office, and using social media responsibly. Lastly, we reviewed the school's new motto: ROAR-Respect, Outstanding Attitude, Academic Excellence, & Responsibility!

September is National Suicide Awareness Month

The counselors at LAJH are going to address the sensitive topic of suicide with students by focusing on a theme "Be a Buddy", or how we can help one another when we notice someone is feeling down. All staff and students at LAJH can support "Be a Buddy" by wearing yellow on Friday-September 15, 2017.

*Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest is open to all 4th-12th grade students in the state of Florida. Winners will receive a 4-Year scholarship provided by Florida Prepaid College Foundation!

* School Activities: Our Spanish classes will be displaying informational posters around the school about Hispanic and Latin countries. The school library will also have displays of traditional Hispanic costumes and an array of literature about Hispanic and Latino culture.
