Kindness and Gratefulness

All this fall, our students have been sharing “Kindness Recognition”. Using slips of paper in the hallway, children highlight random acts of kindness they see all around the building. We read these during our morning announcements. What we are learning is that, sometimes, the most inspiring words a child can hear are the ones from another child. Recently, we’ve heard recognitions such as “Thank you (student name) for helping me on the playground when I was sad” and “A big thank you to ____ for always helping your table clean up their mess.” Sharing gratitude is both a skill and a habit. We are proud of this beautiful habit our students are developing at Ute Pass Elementary School.

Lost & Found

During the Fall Break all items in Lost & Found will be donated to the District Clothes Closet. Please come in or remind your child to check for items. It is extremely helpful if parents would label clothing, hats, gloves, lunch boxes and water bottles. Makes it MUCH easier to reunite lost items with owners.

Dates to Remember for November Brought to you by Ivy, Wyatt, and Desi

Election Day
Election Day was November 2nd. Tuesday was selected as the most convenient day of the week to hold elections since in the 1800s, many people worked as farmers and lived far from the polls. Thus, they needed a day for travel. Also, due to the large population of farmers, the month of November was chosen so that it didn’t interfere with the planting season. The City of Colorado Springs holds elections on the first Tuesday of April in odd-numbered years. The next City General Municipal election for City Council and Mayor will be held on April 4, 2023. In Colorado, an individual can register to vote if he or she is at least 16 years old and will be 18 by Election Day. A voter must be a citizen of the United States and have lived in Colorado at least 22 days prior to Election Day.

Veteran’s Day
Veteran’s Day is an important day celebrated on the 11th of November. This national holiday is a celebration of United States veterans who have fought for our country. Veteran’s Day originated in 1918 and was first called Armistice Day in honor of the armistice that ended World War I. We started celebrating Veteran’s Day in the United States in 1938. Celebrations take place each year at the Tomb of the Unknowns to honor unmarked fallen soldiers.

Native American Heritage Day
November is Native American Indian Heritage Month and November 26th is Native American Heritage Day. The history and culture of American Indians is being celebrated this month because native culture and history is still very present today. Take some time this month to learn about the history, traditions, and contributions of our Native American populations.
