Principal's Message
October 30, 2021
Dear Walnut Hills High School Families:
This was one of those weeks when there were many reminders of how great it is to have our students back on campus for learning - and fun! These social events and traditions are an important part of our students' growth, and they make their time at Walnut Hills memorable. Please check out our photos below to get a sense of why it was such a great week to be an Eagle.
One quick note that has to do with student safety and supervision. Parents and guardians, we need your help to make certain that all students have dismissal plans. Our school day ends at 3 pm. At that time, bus riders need to move to their respective Metro bus stop. All athletes who remain on campus are to report to the cafeteria by 3:15 pm for their study tables or until their practice/event is set to begin. Students remaining after school for academic assistance/Help Nights need to go to their teachers' classrooms immediately; most Help Nights start immediately after school and last until 3:45-4 pm. The library is also open to 4 pm each day. Please arrange for pick-up right after the conclusion of Help Night. All students who are not involved in an afterschool activity or Help Night should be picked up no later than 3:30 pm. After 3:30 pm students remaining in Blair Circle will be asked to move into the Arcade to wait for their ride. We will be reaching out to families whose children are here after 3:30 pm for no apparent reason as we are not equipped to offer after-school supervision beyond that time. We ask for your cooperation in helping with this important after school process.
Sincerely,
John Chambers

Reminder about early dismissal procedures
Hey parents/guardians! Our Early Dismissal procedure will make your student’s next dismissal FAST & EASY.
Request early dismissal by having your student submit a note to the grade level office in the morning before classes begin or by using the Attendance Email (whhsattendance@gmail.com). Provide student name, grade level, where they are going and when you need them to leave.
Your student will need to stop by office 2207 (7-9th) or 2209 (10-12th) to pick up an Early Dismissal pass in order to leave campus on their own and meet their ride outside. Parents do not need to enter the building if students have the permission slip from the office. Students can stop by the office before classes begin, between passing bells, during study hall or before lunch time.
A school excuse (doctor’s note) from your doctor/dental/therapy provider is required to excuse absences for appointments. A hard copy should be turned in to the office by your student when they return to school OR a photo can be emailed to whhsattendance@gmail.com. Faxes are accepted at 513-363-8420.
Reminder about who needs a covid test
If your student is absent due to illness or if you don’t notify the school at all regarding an absence, your student will be coded E the following day and will be expected to provide a negative Covid test when they return to school. Please be sure to include ill students’ symptoms so appropriate instruction/next steps can be provided.
Attendance code E (excused by principal) is the code we currently use to notify teachers that a student needs to be sent to the office to provide their negative Covid test results. We also use code E to excuse your student while you wait for your test results.
Please review our current Medical Room/Covid policies using this link to learn more about testing, recurring illness like migraine and asthma and quarantine requirements.
Medical Room/Covid Procedures Fall 2021 For additional information or if you have questions, please contact the CPS Covid Hotline at 363-0527.
Reduced AP exam fees are available to those who qualify. But you must apply for this year's exam fees NOW.
Legacy of Excellence
Did you know that ONE-THIRD of our school’s annual discretionary budget is supported by the generosity of Walnut Hills’ parents? Many of the things that make Walnut Hills special, simply won’t happen without YOUR annual support of the Legacy of Excellence (“LOE”) fundraising campaign.
The Legacy of Excellence campaign funds:
• Textbooks and other academic tools to support our students;
• Orchestra and Band Instruments (large instruments -Double Bass, Tuba, etc.);
• College Information Center staff salaries;
• Salaries of WHHS coaches and our year around strength coach;
• Uniforms/Equipment for WHHS Eagles sports teams;
• New Choral Risers and Acoustic Sound Shells for the auditorium stage; and
• Staff Appreciation Gifts.
Can we count YOU to help Walnut Hills reach its Legacy of Excellence 2021/22 campaign goal of $120,000?
