College basketball has "MARCH MADNESS" every spring to celebrate the NCAA Men's basketball tournament. In Indiana, they call the high school basketball tournament "HOOSIER HYSTERIA". I'm thinking we could rename this time of year in H-town as "BRICKIE MADNESS"? How about "HOBART FALLSTERIA"? Whatever you want to call it, it's FANTASTIC and we LOVE IT!

A month ago, two Lady Brickie golfers were within 1 stroke of advancing to the IHSAA REGIONAL ...

Two weeks ago, the Hobart boys tennis team defeated Andrean for their 1st IHSAA SECTIONAL TITLE in 6 years and the Hobart boys soccer team wrapped up their 2nd STRAIGHT NCC CHAMPIONSHIP ...

Last week, BOTH soccer teams reached the IHSAA SECTIONAL semifinal round, the girls cross country & 4 individual boys qualified for the REGIONAL and boys tennis reached the REGIONAL FINALS for the 1st time in 50 years ...

This week, the Lady Brickies volleyball team was competing in the SECTIONAL and BOTH cross country teams had competitors @ the REGIONAL ...

Combine it all with our football team winning 3 in a row to close out the regular season, outscoring their opponents 121-15 in the process and winning their 2nd straight NCC CHAMPIONSHIP and you can see what I mean! It really is BRICKIE FALLSTERIA!!!

Grab a blanket and get comfortable ... it's time for BricksCenter!

IHSAA REGIONAL @ Lemon Lake

On a cold Saturday morning in Crown Point, the Brickie harriers raced at the IHSAA REGIONAL. How might Hobart punch a ticket to the Semistate? Well ... here's what it says on the IHSAA website:

The top 10 individuals from non‐advancing teams and the first 5 qualifying teams from each regional shall advance to designated semi‐states.

LET'S GOOOOOO!!!!

Girls

Our girls were the 1st ones to traverse the 3.1-mile course at Lemon Lake on Saturday morning. Again, the top 5 teams advance ... just like last week when our girls placed 4th at the sectional. Hobart ran well overall, but in the end finished 7th overall ... 25 points (133-158) behind Lowell for the 5th and final qualifying spot. This unfortunately closes the book on the TEAM competition for our girls after a FANTASTIC season and a welcomed appearance back at the REGIONAL after a 1-year hiatus ... particularly when you consider that 6 of the 7 competitors for the Lady Brickies on Saturday were FRESHMEN! WOW!! Racing for Hobart were junior Ella Hornak and freshmen Cassie Cohen, Joanna Cantu, Millie Massey, Alissa Trail, Delaney Williams & Audrey Turley! Saturday marked Hornak's 3rd straight Regional appearance, but what an experience for such a young crew!! Coach A better get some sunglasses because the future looks very BRIGHT!!

Individually, CASSIE COHEN PLACED 1ST OVERALL and was the IHSAA REGIONAL INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION!! Cassie is the 1st REGIONAL CHAMPION for Hobart in Girls Cross Country since Celena Guerrero won back in 2013!! INCREDIBLE!! Her time of 19:35.8 was 20 seconds faster than the 2nd place finisher!! With her individual victory, Cassie advances to next week's IHSAA SEMISTATE @ New Prairie High School! Joining her at New Prairie will be classmate Joanna Cantu, who placed 24th overall and was among the top 10 finishers from non-advancing teams!!!

Boys

After finishing 6th at last week's IHSAA Sectional, the boys were not able to bring an entire team to Lemon Lake County Park on Saturday. Still, sophomore Felix Lopez, junior Owen Stankich and freshmen Durgon Click & Lu Cohen advanced as individuals and toed the starting line with best in Lake County!

Conditions were less than ideal ... it was COLD and the boys ran the 2nd race. Still, the Brickies put all they had ON THE LINE from start to finish! Lopez ran a FANTASTIC race ... placed 17th overall and was 6th among individuals from non-advancing teams, which means Felix will race next week at the IHSAA SEMISTATE for the 2nd straight year!! Cohen & Click competed valiantly and showed great teamwork ... as they have all year ... finishing within 6 seconds of each other ... Lu in 41st and Durgon in 44th overall. Unfortunately, they were outside that group of 10 and will not advance to next week. Owen battled like a warrior, but got tripped up around the 4000 meter mark of the race and was unable to finish due to injury.

In a fall season with more twists & turns ... ups & downs than an actual course, the Brickies are still dancing! Cassie Cohen, Joanna Cantu and Felix Lopez will be racing next Saturday at the IHSAA SEMISTATE hosted by New Prairie High School! On the line that day will be a chance to punch a ticket to the state finals. CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE AND GOOD LUCK NEXT WEEK!!

Volleyball

After finishing the regular season with 14 wins ... the most for the Lady Brickies since 2012, Hobart traveled to Valparaiso High School for the 2022 IHSAA SECTIONAL.

On Thursday night, our girls opened sectional play against Chesterton ... a team that defeated the Lady Bricks in 3 games back on September 26th. No question about it, Hobart was hoping that Cinderella's slipper would fit against the 16-win Trojans.

The first set went BACK-AND-FORTH ... Chesterton would gain an advantage, then the Bricks would fight back! Play was SPIRITED and INTENSE as each squad tried to seize early control! Chesterton got on a roll after the score was tied at 16, rattled off 9 straight and won the 1st set 25-16. That momentum carried over into the 2nd set as the Trojans won again 25-8. Down 2-0, the Lady Brickies did not go gentle into that good night - THEY RAGED and battle back in the 3rd set with everything they had ... taking the lead early and going toe-to-toe with the DAC foe! Our girls WORK WORK WORKed, but ultimately the Trojans again found their rhythm and closed the book on the 2022 season for Hobart with a 25-14 win in the 3rd & final set.

Chesterton would lose to eventual champion Crown Point in a sectional semifinal Saturday morning. CP defeated #7-ranked Valparaiso on Thursday and then beat Chesterton & Portage in straight sets on Saturday to win their 4th consecutive sectional crown.

Alas, the slipper did not fit for the Lady Brickies, but we are VERY PROUD of them!

Every season is a journey with highs & lows. Our girls showed a sustained EFFORT, WILL, and PERSEVERANCE along the entire journey this fall and represented H-town with great PRIDE!

THANK YOU to our 4 seniors - #1 Daeges Morgan, #3 Addy Klemm, #9 Gabby Tomich & #10 Angelina Priestly! THANK YOU to Coach Price and her staff for all their hard work this year!

Football

For the 2022 regular season finale, the Brickies were on the road at Munster looking to stay in the hunt for a 2nd consecutive NCC title. Our boys would need a win ... and a Lowell victory over Andrean ... to accomplish the task!

On a cold & wet Friday night in Munster, it didn't take long for our boys to get things going. Midway through the first quarter, sophomore QB Noah Ehrlich found senior back Trey Gibson over the middle for a completion ... Gibson made one defender miss and sprinted the to the house for a 50-yd TOUCHDOWN!!! Later in the same quarter, Gibson hit PAYDIRT AGAIN on a 9-yd run to increase the Hobart advantage to 14-0!!

Early in the second quarter, the Bricks blocked a punt and recovered at the 12-yd line! On the very next play, Ehrlich hit classmate Jaelen Williams with a 12-yd TOUCHDOWN pass and it was 21-0 BRICKIES!!!

Our boys would tack on two more scores in the 3rd quarter and returned to The Friendly City with a 35-0 VICTORY!!! Ehrlich was 7/13 passing for 101 yards and 2 scores ... Gibson carried the pill 18 times covering 157 yards and 3 TDs ... and sophomore Connor Stafford led all receivers with 3 catches! The Brickie D-D-D-DEFENSE was PHENOMENAL once again!! Seniors Noah Miller & Nathan Queer combined for 22 tackles ... 7 of them for loss ... to help Hobart pitch their second shutout of the season!!

... and in case you were wondering, the Red Devils defeated Andrean 28-13 on Friday night, which means that Andrean, Lowell and HOBART each finished the conference slate with a 4-1 record - NORTHWEST CROSSROADS CONFERENCE CO-CHAMPIONS!!! YESSSS!!!

The Brickies finished the 2022 regular season at 6-3 overall, 4-1 in NCC play and won their 3rd conference title in 4 years!! On Friday, Hobart will host the 7-2 Gary West Side Cougars in a first round IHSAA SECTIONAL contest @ The Brickyard! BE THERE!!
