K5C Friday Features
Weekly Newsletter February 5
This was a very different week for the Academy. We enjoyed a wonderful Spirit Week. The children's participation made for a fun and exciting week! Thank you for your help with all the extras. We were grateful for the privilege to hear the BJA High School Band present a special patriotic concert for the Primary Center on Wednesday. Of course we are eagerly anticipating the Elementary School Spirit Night in the Academy Gym tonight. I hope to see you there!
This was also a difficult week as we dealt with the Lord unexpectedly calling home to heaven one of our beloved BJA high school teachers. Thursday was a difficult day for many of us who knew, loved and appreciated Kim Bierman. For those of you who did not know her, trust me when I say she was truly "one of a kind." Please be in prayer for her family and for those friends, colleagues and students who will feel her absence on this earth.
LET'S RRREAD! Update
We are still working to reach 100% class participation! In order for the children to receive their fourth sticker for their button and receive a prize, the red slip for this week of reading for 25 minutes must be filled out and signed and returned to the office on Monday, February 8 by 3:30. Of course, you are welcome to include it in the returned Friday folder. I will be looking for those red slips! Reading less than 25 minutes will not count toward the contest and slips returned after 3:30 on Monday are not eligible. (If your child is absent on Monday, you may turn in their slip on their FIRST day back to school.)
This week we have begun to discuss the obedience of Jesus to His Father. Jesus submitted to his earthly parents and grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man. As Jesus began his earthly ministry he was baptized by John and God spoke from heaven saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
Memory Verse: Psalm 23 will be due Monday. We are reviewing daily.
Character Trait: Self Control: Doing something even when I don't feel like it
Language Arts News
God certainly created many interesting sea creatures and sea birds. We learned some interesting things about the octopus and frigate bird this week. We also listened to different sounds of the sea.

Thank you for your help in preparing for 100 Day! We had a great time sharing our items with our friends. Thank you for participating with us.
(A special thank you to Mrs. Meachum for the 100 day cupcakes!)
As we celebrated the 100th day, we had a good time counting to 100 in different ways and with different things. Please continue to review numerals 1-100 by having your child tell you what comes after, before, or between two numbers (45 _____; _____ 77; 83 _____ 85).
